Open Day: record attendance at SZE’s Open Day

Thousands of young people attended the Open Doors Day of Széchenyi István University to get detailed information about the opportunities offered by the institution. At the stands, secondary school students were able to learn not only about Programmes offered in Győr, but also about the agricultural and food technology programmes in Mosonmagyaróvár, the unique opportunities offered by the ZalaZONE automotive test track, as well as about company partnerships and dual education partners. Visitors were given a comprehensive overview of student life and the research directions in which they can become involved at Széchenyi István University if they are accepted.

After the Educatio Exhibition in Budapest, the Open Day of the Széchenyi István University attracted a large number of young people interested in the institution's courses. "By the opening of the event, registration had already exceeded 5,000 people, but even after that, students continued to come to our school, which is far more than last year's number of visitors. At the Educatio Exhibition in Budapest, we managed to attract a number of young people who then attended the Open Day in Győr and are now planning their life at Széchenyi." said Gréta Oláh, head of the University's admissions office.

As usual, the day began with the admission information session, with a presentation by Dr Zsolt Kovács, Chancellor. "Széchenyi István University offers its students a valuable and competitive degree, which is confirmed by the fact that graduates find jobs very quickly, many of them during their studies," said the Chancellor. He added that in addition to high-quality courses, the institution offers its students the opportunity to participate in student teams among the best in Europe, excellent dormitory accommodation, a variety of sports activities and colourful programmes.

During presentations, participants were also informed about accommodation in the Halls of Residence, the 88 Hungarian-taught degree programmes of the University's nine faculties, dual education, scholarships and international opportunities, but they also had the opportunity to take a tour of the campus, voted the most beautiful campus in 2019, the Halls facilities, and even visit the laboratories, the University library and the Architects’ Studio Building.

At the exhibition stands in the University Hall, visitors could meet representatives of the faculties, the University's corporate partners, the programmes offered by the University not only in Győr, but also  in Mosonmagyaróvár and Budapest, and the dynamically developing Innovation and Training Centre of Széchenyi István University in Zalaegerszeg.

 The ZalaZONE Industrial Park Zrt., owned by the Széchenyi István University Foundation, which maintains the institution, presented a spectacular stand showcasing future-oriented research trends and modern technological solutions that students interested in technical careers can engage with.

Young people were given an insight into the world of sustainable transport and autonomous vehicles, among other things. A Lidar and a stereo camera system were presented as important components of self-driving vehicles. They also had the chance to see a ROSBot up close: the self-driving robot was shown to recognise road signs and act on instructions when following a route. In addition to the vehicle developments, the stand also showcased mechanical innovations, with visitors also being able to see how the 3D scanner works.

At the ZalaZONE stand, it was clear that dedicated students, building on the strong technological tradition of Széchenyi István University, can study, research and shape the transport systems of the future. This practical knowledge is further enhanced by the opportunity to participate in student teams.

Among the other student teams presented during the day were the Arrabona Racing Team, which has been successful in Formula Student for the past season, the SZEngine engine development team, which works closely with them, and the SZEnergy Team, which won Europe's biggest energy efficiency race, the Shell Eco-marathon, with a world record.

The success of the Open Doors Day is best demonstrated by the huge interest and the feedback of the participants. "I have come from Pesterzsébet Technical School, I am currently studying logistics and I would like to continue my studies in this direction. I have heard only good things about Széchenyi University, the environment and the helpfulness of the teachers, so I visited the stand of the institution at the Educatio Exhibition in Budapest, which further increased my interest. Finally, I came to the Open Doors Day to experience in person everything I had heard so far," said Virág Báder from Budapest. She added that she was not disappointed, and that she had learned a lot more about the Halls of Residence and the sporting opportunities that were of particular interest to her. "What I have seen has confirmed that I want to continue my studies here!" - she concluded.

 Krisztián Zaka from Csopak would like to continue his studies in Mosonmagyaróvár. The Albert Kázmér Faculty's stand also featured modern technologies and focused on sustainability.

 Krisztián Zaka, from Csopak, near Lake Balaton, came from the Industrial Technical School in Veszprém and is consciously planning his future. "I would like to work with fish and aquatic life, and the first step is to apply for a degree in environmental engineering. Although I came with questions about whether Széchenyi István University would be a good choice, my time here and the discussions at the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty stand dispelled any doubts and I decided to choose Széchenyi as my first choice for my application," said the student about to choose his career.

In addition to the exhibition, the packed lecture halls hosted information sessions, where applicants could learn more about the specificities of the programmes. In academic year 2023/24, the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Pedagogy, Humanities and Social Sciences will launch a new Bachelor's degree in Vocational Education and a Master's degree in Children's Culture, while the Faculty of Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár will launch an English-taught Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Water Management and Environmental Engineering. The Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences will be offering a new Bachelor's degree in Health Administration and an MSc in Obstetrical and Gynaecological Sonography. In addition, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Programming will be launched at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering. The series of graduation ceremonies at Széchenyi István University continued on 23 February. In the morning, 123 students received their degrees at the joint ceremony of the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Automotive Engineering and the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár and in the afternoon 219 students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, as well as 240 students of the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Economics accepted their degrees.
