Representatives of the Embassy of Argentina in Hungary visited Széchenyi István University to discuss opportunities for establishing educational, research and mobility partnerships. During the 15 July visit, topics included the launch of a double degree programme, the development of scientific collaborations, and the hosting of Argentine visiting professors and students.

Széchenyi István University places strong emphasis on expanding its international partnerships and developing new educational and research collaborations. In this spirit, the institution welcomed a delegation led by Ricardo Andrés Vignolo, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Argentina in Hungary, to explore potential areas of cooperation.

During the meeting, Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations, highlighted that the university, with more than 17,000 students, currently hosts around 1,200 international students from nearly 90 countries. She noted that the institution offers more than 60 English-taught programmes. Students can choose from a number of double degree programmes developed in cooperation with partner universities in the United States, China, Portugal, India and Italy.

The Vice-President emphasised that, alongside research cooperation, the University is open to establishing a double degree programme with an Argentine higher education institution. She added that various forms of support are available to assist visiting professors and students during their stay.

Dr Lukács also pointed out that the University already maintains links with the Latin American region. In the 2025/26 academic year, full-time students from eight South and Central American countries, namely Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Saint Lucia, studied at the institution. In addition, since the 2024/25 academic year, exchange students from Mexico and Brazil have spent shorter periods at the University, while students from Széchenyi István University have gained international experience in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia.

Dr Tamás Kolossváry, Head of the Győr Innovation Park at the University, presented the park’s operations and innovation ecosystem. He explained that the facility provides space for educational and research units, corporate partners, as well as start-up and spin-off companies. He also noted that plans for the expansion of the park have been completed and that the University is currently seeking funding for their implementation.

Ricardo Andrés Vignolo expressed his satisfaction at having the opportunity to learn first-hand about the University’s educational, research and mobility opportunities. He stressed that he would share the information and impressions gained during the visit with stakeholders in Argentina and that he is ready to support the development of partnerships between the University in Győr and Argentine higher education institutions.
