A total of 356 graduating students of the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University received their diplomas during two ceremonies held on 15 July at the Győr University Sports Hall. Outstanding students were recognised for their academic, scientific and community achievements, while the newly graduated law students were formally conferred the title of Doctor of Law during the afternoon ceremony.

At the morning ceremony, Dr Roland Kelemen, Head of Department and Programme Mentor of the Master's programme in Modern Technologies and Cybersecurity Law, as well as the postgraduate programme in Cybersecurity Law, welcomed the graduates. In his address, he emphasised that technological development is advancing at an unprecedented pace, to which legal and political sciences must also respond. "In the knowledge-intensive economy, digital competences are becoming fundamental skills. Engineers, lawyers, educators and social professionals must work together to ensure that vulnerable groups are not excluded but can continue to be valuable members of society," he explained. He added that, in this spirit, Széchenyi István University has launched postgraduate and master's programmes in cybersecurity law, as well as postgraduate and, from this autumn, master's programmes in digital child protection. He also highlighted that the first graduates of the Master's programme in Modern Technologies and Cybersecurity Law were receiving their degrees at this ceremony.

During the afternoon ceremony, Dr Péter Takács, Chief Prosecutor of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Prosecutor's Office, delivered the ceremonial address. "You have graduated from a law faculty that bears the name of Ferenc Deák. His legacy is associated with composure, moderation, respect for the rule of law and responsibility towards the nation. These values remain highly relevant today and should always guide you. There are many forms of success in the legal profession, but true success lies in remaining faithful to yourselves, preserving your professional integrity and maintaining your belief in your vocation," he told the graduates. Regarding the quality of education at the University, he stated that graduates of the Faculty of Law not only perform exceptionally well within the prosecution service, but many also hold important positions within the organisation.

Dr Éva Göndör, Programme Mentor of the Bachelor's programme in Human Resources, Labour and Social Administration, emphasised that students had received not only a diploma but also the opportunity to become active contributors to the institutions that hold society together. "You will not merely carry out administrative tasks; you will influence people's lives. Your work is therefore not only a means of livelihood, but also a form of service and value creation," she said.

Dr Péter Smuk, Professor and Dean of the Faculty, pointed out that one of civilisation's greatest achievements is the recognition and protection of inherent human rights. "Allow me to quote from a recently celebrated document, the 250-year-old Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. According to the Declaration, all people are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights that cannot be surrendered, including the rights to life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness," he said. He added that, in this spirit, he wished the graduates above all happiness in their lives as degree holders.

On behalf of the graduates, Polett Csilla Koncsekné Reményi and Réka Hruby bid farewell to the University. The ceremonies were enriched by performances from students of the Győr Dance and Fine Arts Primary School, Secondary School and Dormitory, operated by Széchenyi István University. The Student Union's "Teacher for Students" Award was presented to Dr János Kálmán in recognition of his outstanding teaching work.

Within the Pro Auditoribus Award, certificates of appreciation were presented to Júlia Molli Keszei, Alina Nardai and Dorina Veres; certificate-level awards to Eszter Kiss, Viktória Horváth and József Álmos Pingitzer; bronze-level recognition to Martin Ákos Firtl; and silver-level recognition to Réka Hruby, all law students. Certificates of appreciation from the SZESAT Interdisciplinary College for Advanced Studies were presented to Ádám Medvácz and Leon Maszlov for their outstanding contribution to the professional work of the college.

During the two ceremonies, the graduates received their diplomas and took a ceremonial oath. At the afternoon event, graduates of the law programme were formally conferred the title of Doctor of Law.
