Situated halfway between Budapest and Vienna and located at a meeting point of major highways, railways and three rivers, Győr, with its 130,000 inhabitants, is one of the most fortuitously situated cities in Hungary. Close to Hungary’s western border, for centuries, Győr has been a strategic point between East and West for travellers in Central Europe.

Győr is both modern - with a dynamic industrial base producing an impressive one tenth of the country’s exports - and ancient - the restored Baroque city centre of Győr is considered a cultural treasure. Notably, Győr is home to the Audi Hungaria Motor Company. Established in Győr since 1993, the Audi plant ranks as the largest automotive plant in the world, developing and manufacturing engines for the parent company AUDI AG and other companies of the Volkswagen Group.

Nestled along the picturesque banks of the Danube River, Győr offers a harmonious blend of historical charm and modern amenities. Its well-preserved Baroque architecture invites visitors to stroll through streets lined with quaint cafes, boutique shops, and impressive cultural attractions. The city's rich history is reflected in its array of architectural marvels, including the Basilica, dating back to the 11th century. Students can enjoy the facilities of the Rába Quelle Thermal Spa, situated directly across from the University, as well as the high quality performances at the Richter Concert Hall and the National Theatre of Győr.

For nature enthusiasts, the surrounding countryside offers a wealth of outdoor adventures, from hiking and cycling trails to tranquil parks and nature reserves. With its dynamic blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, Győr provides an inspiring backdrop for academic pursuits, offering students a truly enriching experience both inside and outside the classroom.

Győr's strategic location in the heart of Europe makes it an ideal hub for exploration, with easy access to the cities of several European countries.
