Our university
Széchenyi István University is located in Győr, at the centre of Central Europe’s “golden triangle”, midway between the capitals of Hungary, Austria and Slovakia, along highway M15, on the river Danube. The main campus of Széchenyi István University, situated on the banks of the River Danube and only minutes on foot from the city centre of Győr has over recent years undergone a massive infrastructural renewal including expansion of the University’s student accommodation, with the addition of two new high quality and well-equipped Student Halls of Residence.
As evidence of the University’s strong commitment to internationalization, 42 English-taught programmes at all Academic levels will be on offer from September 2024. Bachelor level programmes include 10 English-taught degrees are available at Bachelors level, including nine BSc programmes in the following subjects: Food Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Water Management & Environmental Technology Engineering, Civil Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, International Business Economics, Business Administration and Management and Sociology. In addition, a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations is being offered by the Faculty of
Twenty English-taught Masters programmes are on offer for academic year 2024/2025: MSc degrees in Vehicle Engineering, Infrastructure – Civil Engineering, Architecture, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, International Economics & Business, Tourism Management, Regional & Environmental Economic Studies, Computer Science Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Business Informatics and Electrical Engineering. In addition, in the Humanities, Széchenyi István University is offering MA degrees in Design, Music Performance, (currently available for the following instruments: Violin, Clarinet, Trumpet, Piano and Flute) as well as a new programme in Modern Technologies and Cybersecurity Law in the Faculty of Humanities.
We also offer the following Double Degrees for academic year 2024 /2025: Business Administration (MBA) with the University of Rhode Island, Kingston RI (USA); an MSc in Tourism Management together with the Polytechnic of Leiria, Portugal; an MSc in International Economics and Business with the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Italy, and an MSc in International Economics and Business with Integral University, Lucknow, India.
Three of our four Doctoral Schools offer English-taught Doctoral Programmes as follows: Business and Management Sciences, Crop Sciences, Animal Sciences, Food Engineering, Transport Sciences, Informatics and Civil Engineering. In addition to full degrees, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences offers two postgraduate programmes in the field of Law and Governance. The Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences is offering two new postgraduate programmes for 2024/2025: Aviation Engineering and Aviation Specialist.
Our University offers unique training and research in the region, serving engineering-focussed production activities, helping to build the North-Transdanubian economy and its social and institutional infrastructure. We provide students with a high-level, professional, and practical education. Graduates are thus able to adapt to the highly competitive and changing market place. We have 45 years of tradition and experience in supporting Hungary ́s leading industries with a strong focus on vehicle engineering, transportation and telecommunication. As a result, our University has become the primary driver of the regional economy provider for the public service sector and supplies the human resources and training needs for the North-Transdanubian region.
Since 2015, the University has been cooperating with Audi Hungaria Motor Ltd, jointly founding the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Automotive Engineering, which now boasts six professorships: internal combustion engines, automotive manufacturing technology, complete vehicle development, material science and technology, environmental engineering, logistics and shipping. The company’s specialist involvement at the University of Győr is intensified by the large extent of direct participation of Audi Hungaria experts in lectures and research.
Currently under development is a state-of-the-art Science and Innovation Park, on a 3.6-hectare site, facing the University on the opposite bank of the River Danube. The first phase was opened in 2023, with the Park set to be one of Hungary's most influential science, technology and business environments, providing tenant companies and start-ups with an environment of innovation and creativity. The mission of the development is to enhance collaboration between large, medium and small sized enterprises, university researchers and talented students of the University.
The Park will function as an organizational and infrastructural link in assisting its tenants and corporate partners to come into contact with the University’s 28 testing labs and 21 research labs to realize various testing and research tasks. Importantly, the Science and Innovation Park will also provide an expanded organizational and infrastructural framework for the innovation stimulating activities of the University’s Management Campus.
