Autumn Festivities in Full Swing at SZE

After Freshers' Week, student life at Széchenyi István University continues unabated. One of the highlights of the autumn schedule is the Freshers’ and Alumni Ball, which will take place on 15 November in the Győr City University Hall.

The Student Union of Széchenyi István University (EHÖK) pays special attention to improving the quality of student life, with a focus on organising events for a meaningful leisure time. Community building is also an important aspect, as it helps young people to integrate.

"We are organising more and more events for our international students where they can meet other people and have fun. Last year, it was particularly gratifying to see how close the International Food Fest brought them together, where students from different countries showcased their national gastronomies with home-cooked food for all to taste. Building on this great success, we are going to organise it again this year," said Dávid Vályi Nagy, President of EHÖK, who also mentioned the events in Mosonmagyaróvár.

"Although our Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár is 30 kilometres away from Győr, we would like to build a bridge between the two cities and organise as many joint events as possible. Whenever possible, we invite our friends from Mosonmagyaróvár to join us in their events. Because of the traditions of Selmec, the farming culture of Óvár includes many traditional elements that are still cherished by our students today, from the weekly singing to doing the waltz. Emblematic events include the “Farmer’s Olympic”, the Farmers' Championship and the traditional pig slaughtering, which is a favourite event for the people of Győr," the President EHÖK added.

After Freshers' Week, the autumn semester offers a wide range of activities for students, including annual events such as the Freshers' and Alumni Ball, the “Move, Campus!” sports days, or the traditional “Studio Marathon”, which will feature 2024 minutes of non-stop music on the online streaming platform, in line with the year. And of course, there will be the usual cookouts, quizzes and arm-wrestling.

The Freshers' and Alumni Ball is the last symbolic event of the freshers' integration, where the freshers take their "vows", symbolically welcoming them as full members of the community. Tickets for the event, which will take place in the Győr City University Hall on 15 November this year, are now on sale at the Student Information and Service Centre (AKIK tér, ÚT-106) and online. György Korda and Klári Balázs will be the main performers at the ball, so a good atmosphere is once more guaranteed this year.

Organised jointly by the institution's Sports and Recreation Centre and the Sports Office, part of the Student Union, sport took centre stage at the beginning of October at the “Move, Campus!” event. The programme included football, wall climbing, Pilates and backgammon, topped off by the decades-old “Püspökerdő (Bishop’s Forest) Run”.

As every year, the EHÖK faculty sub-unions offer a variety of entertainment for those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere.

"As long as the good weather held out, there was a cookout almost every week at the Bridge Student and Teacher Club. It's important to stress that these events are not just for students in the organising departments, as the cookouts are open to any member of the University. This autumn, the Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Mechatronics committees kicked off the season with a joint cookout, which was well attended. The Bridge's courtyard can accommodate up to a thousand people," said Dávid Vályi Nagy.

Also very popular are quiz nights, as well as elegant faculty and departmental evenings, combined with dinners. Additionally, the famous Bridge parties are an essential part of student life—Wednesday evenings at Széchenyi István University would not be the same without them.

"Week after week we try to organise quality and memorable parties. Last year, we had an initiative where students could vote on the style of music that the Dormitory Studio should play, so we had rock, retro and techno nights. This year, we want to continue this. In addition to our resident DJ, we are of course trying to invite performers, with the support of Uniklub Ltd, the company that runs Bridge, and the University management," concluded the President of EHÖK.
