Brief description of the programme:

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) program in Nursing and Patient Care provides comprehensive, high-level theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of nursing and health sciences, as well as social and behavioural sciences. The goal of the program is to train dedicated and highly qualified nurses who are capable of working independently and to a high professional standard at all levels of the health and social care system—from premature infants to the elderly. During the eight-semester program, students learn to organize, plan, and manage nursing processes, implement quality assurance, and master the fundamentals of nursing research. As a key, active member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the graduate nurse independently monitors patients on an ongoing basis, assesses their needs, and makes responsible decisions when changes in their condition are detected. In their clinical practice, they diligently implement the treatment prescribed by the physician while providing compassionate care and support tailored to the individual’s condition for both the patient and their family. Beyond their clinical work, graduates actively participate in disease prevention, rehabilitation, and the implementation of public health education and prevention programs. A career in nursing is not merely about earning a degree, but is a lifelong, global calling. Since the program is based on professional qualifications recognized throughout the European Union and worldwide, the degree provides excellent employment and career opportunities in the international healthcare market.

Structure of studies

The first three semesters are dominated by basic biology subjects in the field of human health sciences (e.g., Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology, Cell Biology and Histology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Microbiology, Public Health, and Epidemiology). Then Nursing-specific theoretical and practical subjects (Nursing of Internal Medicine, Surgery - Traumatology Nursing lecture and practical, Obstetrics-Gynecology and Nursing lecture and practical, Anesthesiology - Intensive Therapy and Nursing lecture and practical, Infant – Child health care and Nursing lecture and practical, Neurology and Nursing, Psychiatry and Nursing and practical, Primary Health Care and Community Nursing, Oncology and Nursing), as well as clinical practices (in Petz Aladár County Teaching Hospital) follow. The fourth year revolves around practices and the thesis work. After the successful final examination and defence of the thesis, students receive a BSc degree certificate in Nursing.

Language requirements

• TOEFL 513 / IELTS 5.5 /oral examination, TOEFL IBT test score of 66 (issued in the last two years).
• Certificate of any standardised international English language exam corresponding with Hungarian B2 at the Bachelor’s level and C1 at Master’s level issued by an accredited language centre/ academic institution.
• In case the student has completed his/her previous level of studies in English, proof can be uploaded about the fact that the language of instruction was English, issued by the institution.
• If the uploaded document(s) do not meet the above-mentioned requirements, the University relies on an online language interview.

Programme educational objectives:

The aim of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Nursing and Patient Care is to equip students with the comprehensive knowledge, professional skills and a dedicated approach essential for a successful international career in healthcare. Our Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) are as follows:

PEO#1: Apply knowledge from physical, biological, and behavioural sciences, human body organization, medicine, and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families, and communities. Knowledge of the main diagnostic methods, the abnormalities associated with common diseases, their symptoms and pathophysiological clinical abnormalities (as clinical laboratory, imaging diagnostics).

PEO#2:  Experienced in methods of medical documentation, data management, and personal and patient rights. Make decisions in nursing situations, able to protect the rights and facilitate individuals and groups in pursuit of health, and conduct research studies in the areas of nursing practice.

PEO#3: Familiar with the basics of meeting physiological needs, areas of psychology, principles, and characteristics of support work. Familiar with the basic concepts and tasks of management, the actors in the care system, and their scope of activity and responsibilities.

PEO#4: Effectively communicates clearly and logically through written communication for professional delivery.

Student Outcomes:

The learning outcomes of our programme are the skills, knowledge and professional conduct that our curriculum aims to impart to students. The BSc in Nursing and Patient Care programme sets out seven learning outcomes (SO1–SO7) to guide students’ professional development, as follows:

1. Planning complex care interventions: Ability to plan effective interventions for individual health to improvement. Performs tasks related to its profession while employing pharmacological and medical engineering.

2. Personalised and effective communication: The ability to communicate the necessary health information clearly, comprehensibly and in a targeted manner, taking into account the patient’s age, social circumstances, and cognitive and emotional state.

3. Management of patient care and professional documentation: The ability to set priorities, delegate tasks, manage and coordinate patient care processes, using clear, logical and structured communication in both oral and written professional contexts.

4. Legal, ethical and organisational competence: A thorough understanding of the functioning of healthcare systems and their regulatory and funding environments; strict adherence to legal frameworks and the limits of one’s own remit; and the credible representation of patients’ rights and the means of enforcing them.

5. Critical thinking and a scientific approach: Applying critical thinking and a creative, problem-solving approach in the delivery of high-quality patient care, whilst following the steps of the evidence-based nursing process.

6. Health promotion and interprofessional collaboration: Effective collaboration with members of the healthcare team to implement best practice in health promotion, disease prevention, patient safety, quality assurance and equitable care.

7. Up-to-date and comprehensive professional knowledge: Possessing comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of nursing science and prevention, and a commitment to applying the latest international professional guidelines and best practices.

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing and Patient Care offers internationally recognised career opportunities in the health and social care sectors. The qualification is fully recognised by the EU, meaning it can be recognised as an equivalent qualification in European Union member states without the need for a separate recognition procedure.
