Culinary Journey by SZE: Paneer Restaurant Now Offers Indian Cuisine

Since March, Paneer Sport Pub, located in the ETO Park shopping centre in Győr, has expanded its menu to include Indian cuisine. This selection, designed to create a sense of home for the University’s Indian students, also invites locals and visitors to embark on a culinary journey, allowing them to enjoy exotic flavours every day of the week.

Széchenyi István University offers a vibrant international atmosphere, with students arriving in Győr from around eighty different countries. This diverse environment provides an opportunity for young people to learn about each other’s traditions, values, and customs. The university has strong ties with India, recently launching a two-year International Economics and Business Double Degree Master’s Programme in collaboration with Integral University.

Various initiatives help international students quickly integrate into the university community. One of the most effective ways to bring people together is through gastronomy, offering insights into different cultures through flavours. The University’s restaurant based in the ETO Park shopping centre provides an excellent opportunity to explore both Indian and Hungarian cuisine, as its name suggests. Péter Knauz, Strategic Director of the University-owned company operating the restaurant, explained that the name Paneer refers to a versatile Indian grilled cheese. Naturally, the restaurant is open not only to students but to everyone else.

Ádám Neumann, Managing Director of the business, highlighted that the menu includes a variety of Indian dishes, such as paneer prepared in different ways, Dal Makhani (black lentils and baked beans in a spiced sauce), and Chicken Tikka Masala (grilled, marinated chicken pieces in a spicy sauce). He added that those who prefer Hungarian flavours are also welcome, as the menu features pork, poultry, and fish dishes. The restaurant also caters to vegetarians, offering a diverse selection of meat-free options.

Beyond its culinary delights, Paneer Sport Pub also provides a place for sports enthusiasts to cheer for their favourite teams during live broadcasts. The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday and Sunday from 9:00 to 18:00, and Friday to Saturday from 9:00 to 20:00, located on the first floor of the ETO Park shopping centre in Győr.
