Doctoral and Diploma Awards Ceremony Held at SZE’s Faculty of Law and Political Sciences
More than 200 students successfully passed their final exams this academic year at the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University, receiving their diplomas at the ceremony on 18 July. Nearly sixty doctors of law took their oaths at the event.
The doctoral and diploma award ceremony was organized by the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Széchenyi István University on 18 July at the Győr University Hall. Graduates from bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, and from professional training and specialized further training programmes received their diplomas, as well as nearly sixty law students being inaugurated as doctors.
In his welcome speech, Dr László Széplaki, president of the Győr Court of Appeal, encouraged the graduates to pursue lifelong learning, emphasizing that the acquired knowledge requires constant development. “Besides mastering the continuously changing legal materials – which our predecessors have worked on for decades and centuries – the development of skills and abilities becomes necessary, skills which perhaps neither you nor I have thought of,” he said. He also pointed out that artificial intelligence cannot replace human emotions and fairness, which the new graduates will greatly need in their profession.
Law student Dóra Elekes greeted the gathered audience on behalf of the graduates, recalling the years spent at the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, and thanked the professors, all the faculty staff, as well as the support from family and friends.
The request for the inauguration of the graduating law students as doctors was presented by Marcell Gergő Imre. After the oath, the candidates were inaugurated by Prof. Dr Péter Smuk, Dean of the faculty. The gratitude of the newly inaugurated doctors of law was expressed by Dr Boglárka Baky: “In line with our oath, we will strive to serve our profession and science with all our heart and strength, for the honour of Széchenyi István University of Győr and ourselves, and thus our people and country.”
The inauguration ceremony concluded with a speech by Prof. Dr Péter Smuk, who congratulated the recent graduates. “It is a pride of our educational, research, and talent management activities that I can welcome such a large number of colleagues with particularly high summa cum laude distinctions, from very diverse training programmes,” he stated. He wished the fresh graduates joy, good health, and good spirits for their careers, emphasizing the responsibility of the legal profession and the importance of the vocation.
During the event, the Pro Auditoribus awards, given for outstanding community activities, were also presented. The Student Union of Széchenyi István University and the mayor of Győr donate these awards. Certificates were awarded to Boglárka Baky, Kinga Lili Ivicz, and Dorina Szarvas, while diplomas were handed to Nur Bernieh, Nikolett Anna Nagy, Kamilla Szedlák, Míra Szladik, Máté Vegera, and Márk Volter. Leila Mizser received the bronze distinction, and Gréta Borda and Tímea Flóra Kovács received the silver distinction.
