Dr. Katalin Völgyi, lecturer at Széchenyi István University, has passed away
Katalin Völgyi, PhD in economics, associate professor, lecturer of the Department of International and Applied Economics at Széchenyi István University, passed away at the age of 41.
Dr. Katalin Völgyi was a well-respected and liked member of the staff of Széchenyi István University. She started her career at the university by first graduating in economics from Széchenyi István University in 2004, then received her Masters degree in 2006. In 2014, she obtained a PhD degree from the Doctoral School of Regional and Economic Sciences in Győr.
From 2007, she worked as a research assistant and later as a research associate in the Development Economics Research Group of the Institute of World Economy at the Centre for Economic and Regional Studies. In 2015-2016, she was graciously awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship at Ritsumeikan University in Japan. After returning home in 2017, she returned to her alma mater to join the Department of International and Applied Economics at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Economics at Széchenyi István University, where she was a senior lecturer and from 2022 onwards an associate professor. She was extremely hard-working and thorough in all areas of her research work, which included writing up studies, interviewing companies and editing volumes. She was an integral member of the economics department team, as she worked with colleagues on a wide range of topics. This has resulted in several excellent co-authored publications. She is fondly remembered by her teaching and research colleagues as a thorough and knowledgeable co-worker and friend, who was always available to help those who approached her without reservation. She will be greatly missed.
Dr. Katalin Völgyi
As vice-president of the "Yoga in Everyday Life Association" of Győr-Moson-Sopron County, she has done invaluable charitable and social work.
Her memorial service will be held on 30 May 2023 at 13:30 at the Új Köztemető in Budapest.
