Engineers Receive Their Diplomas: Dr Orsolya Ferencz Congratulated SZE Graduates

Nearly 270 students graduated this summer from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, and Electrical Engineering at Széchenyi István University. The graduation ceremony was held on 18 July. Dr Orsolya Ferencz, Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research, personally congratulated the graduates in her keynote address.

On 18 July, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, and Electrical Engineering at Széchenyi István University held its graduation ceremony for students who successfully completed their final exams at the end of the spring semester. Approximately 270 young graduates received their diplomas at the Győr University City Sports Hall. Professor Dr Zoltán Horváth, Dean of the Faculty, stated during the ceremony: “I thank you for the tremendous effort you have invested, which has also supported our work. You participated meaningfully in our projects and prepared conscientiously for your exams, providing us with valuable experiences and a sense of success.” He added that the graduates will need to continuously renew themselves throughout their lives: “Do not fear challenges, because you can only benefit from them if you remain true to your principles, keep your long-term goals in mind, and work toward them,” he advised.

The Dean also emphasized that the faculty is launching new programme to foster dynamic development, often in collaboration with leading companies, authorities, and services in the respective fields. “This September, we are launching a postgraduate training programme in communication, navigation, and remote sensing to address significant educational gaps in Hungary and the region. Next year, we will introduce a new interdisciplinary Master’s programme in Artificial Intelligence, and we have also established a new Department of Artificial Intelligence,” he revealed.

Dr Orsolya Ferencz, Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research and guest of honour at the ceremony, also addressed the new graduates: “I stand here proudly, as we have achieved a remarkable milestone with the HUNOR programme: after forty-five years, we have once again presented a successful national scientific astronaut programme to the international community. Just a few days ago, Tibor Kapu returned to Earth. I extend special thanks to Széchenyi István University for involving so many young people in this programme and drawing attention to the importance of space research,” she said.

Speaking to the graduates, she emphasized: “Never lose your faith or your imagination. The world that will renew life on Earth can only meet humanity's challenges with highly skilled, imaginative intellectuals. Believe in yourselves and your knowledge, trust your abilities, and have the strength to envision the goals you want to achieve!”

During the ceremony, Dr Orsolya Ferencz and Professor Dr Zoltán Horváth presented certificates of recognition to students who had made outstanding contributions to the SZESAT Interdisciplinary Vocational College: Gábor Marton and Katherine Cazco. In recognition of exceptional academic, professional and scientific achievements within the Neumann János Vocational College for Informatics, Kristóf Antal and Zoltán Székely were also awarded certificates.

The “Educators for Students” award, granted by the University Student Union, was presented to Dr Nikolett Fecser, Deputy Dean for Education and Associate Professor in the Department of Automation and Mechatronics. She was recognized for her attentive mentorship of first-year students and her key role in fostering dialogue between students and teaching staff.

Each year, the University Student Union also awards the Pro Progressum prize to individuals who make outstanding professional contributions to the advancement of academic organizations within the institution. This year’s recipient was Gergő Zlatics, an undergraduate student of mechanical engineering and member of the SZEngine engine development team.  Students demonstrating outstanding community engagement were honoured with the Pro Auditoribus award. The certificate of merit was awarded to Máté Borbély (BSc in Mechanical Engineering) and Marcell Mayer (BSc in Engineering Informatics). The diploma-grade award went to Zénó Godó (BSc in Mechanical Engineering), Virág Koroknai (BSc in Business Informatics), Botond Magasi (BSc in Business Informatics), and Benedek Németh (BSc in Business Informatics). Bronze-grade awards were given to József Bence Horváth (BSc in Mechatronics Engineering), Ádám Sárközi (MSc in Computer Science Engineering), and Yubo Tian (BSc in Computer Science Engineering).

Széchenyi István University has maintained a close partnership with the Reinhold and Carmen Würth Foundation since 2013. The foundation provides regular scholarships to a socially disadvantaged student with strong academic performance from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, and Electrical Engineering. Additionally, the graduating student with the highest academic achievement is recognized with monetary and material prizes, along with a diploma. This year’s academic award was presented to Ádám Singlár, a graduate of the BSc in Mechanical Engineering programme, by Dr Sándor Horváth, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
