European Championship Commentator György Korsós Educates Future Sports Professionals at SZE
György Korsós is an associate professor at the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences of Széchenyi István University and commentator for the European Football Championship. The former national football team player obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at this University and in addition to his lecturing duties, he is also a student on the English-taught programme at the Doctoral School of Regional Sciences and Business Administration & Management Sciences.
György Korsós was a major figure in Hungarian football at the turn of the millennium, making 33 appearances for the national team and 22 Champions League appearances for his club. Born in Győr, he has also played in the Austrian and Greek national championships, and, after his professional career ended, decided to return to school and study for a university degree.
"Unfortunately, in the nineties there was no opportunity to lead a dual life, so I could not concentrate on my sporting career and my studies at the same time. After completing various sports-related courses, I applied to Széchenyi István University, where I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in sports and recreation management and a Master's degree in recreation," said György Korsós. He added that he would like to obtain a doctorate and is currently a student at SZE’s Doctoral School of Regional Sciences and Business Administration & Management Sciences. His research focuses on the relationship between sports management and innovation and the impact of innovative management of sports clubs on performance.

He has been involved in the life of the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences as a instructor and since February last year, as a full-time lecturer: he has taught subjects such as sports economics, sports games, training programme design, recreation management, sports physiology and motor skills. "I would like to put my experience and the knowledge I have gained over the years at the service of my students and to set a good example. We also invite well-known and respected external lecturers from sports organisations and associations to one of the courses, from whom young people can also learn a lot." The former national team player revealed that he and his students often discuss the previous day's football matches at the beginning of the course, but he does not like to guess future results.
Although he retired from active football in 2021, he still plays an important role at one of Győr's leading youth football clubs: as club manager he helps the professional development of Üstökös FC Bácsa. His name is not only familiar in the regional sports scene, however, as he has been a commentator on TV screens for eight years now, covering football matches.
György Korsós, formerly a player on the national team, stands his ground as lecturer and commentator. The photo was taken before the Germany vs Hungary European Championship group stage match in Stuttgart.
"Before the 2016 European Championship, I was approached by M4 Sport to appear in the magazine programme leading up to the Austria vs Hungary match, as I had played for Austrian teams for more than ten years. After the recording, I was invited to sign a long-term contract. For one or two years, I worked as a studio presenter for NB I and NB II broadcasts, then I switched to international matches. Today, I mainly commentate on Champions League, Europa League and national team matches," recalls Korsós. He said that he prepares differently for club matches than for a continental tournament, but that the World Cup requires the most thorough preparation. "Thanks to my role as a commentator, I have to keep up to date with transfers, player and club performances, so it keeps me alert," he said, "and I enjoy being in this football environment, it's a good feeling to analyse matches with old colleagues."
