EUSA Rowing 2024: SZE Takes Second, Hungary Tops Medal Table
The Hungarian competitors won five gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the 2024 European Universities Rowing Championships held in Zagreb between 29 and 31 August, putting Hungary at the top of the medal table, ahead of Germany and Croatia.
The Hungarian athletes competed in the continental championships, representing Széchenyi István University and four institutions from the capital (Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Eötvös Loránd University, Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Hungarian University of Sports Science). Széchenyi University won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals, while the Hungarian University of Sport Science celebrated two gold medals and ELTE one. The host University of Zagreb topped the medal table with two gold, two silver and one bronze medal, followed by Széchenyi István University.

The Hungarian Rowing Federation placed significant emphasis on the competition, viewing the advancement of university rowing as a key strategic goal. In line with this, they are set to host the University Rowing European Championships on Lake Venice in 2027.
Among the students of Széchenyi University, Eszter Fehérvári (women's lightweight single sculls), Zsófia Csepel and Eszter Fehérvári (women's lightweight double sculls) won gold medals, Márton Józsa, Zsombor Balog, Péter Gasztonyi and Márió Glázer (men's lightweight coxless four) won silver medals, while Fanni Fazekas and Léna Viandt (women's lightweight coxless pair), Péter Gasztonyi and Márió Glázer (men's lightweight coxless pair), Amir Shah and Barnabás Gasztonyi (men's lightweight coxless pair) won bronze medals.
