Exploring the World: SZE Students Eligible for Pannonia Scholarship in 40+ Countries

Through the Pannonia Scholarship Programme, students of Széchenyi István University can gain international experiences that support their studies, careers, and personal development, while also creating lifelong memories. Applications for the 2025–2026 academic year are open until 16 March, offering opportunities to travel to over 40 countries across four continents. Additionally, students can still apply for short-term mobility programmes and internships lasting between 2–30 days for the current academic year, with applications open until May.

Many students at Széchenyi István University have already taken advantage of the opportunities provided by the Pannonia Scholarship Programme this academic year. Among them, Konrád Kajdy, a Computer Science Engineering undergraduate, spent four months in South Korea at Chung-Ang University in Seoul during the previous semester. “I wanted to experience a culture different from Europe’s, and the Pannonia Scholarship made this possible—without it, I would not have had the opportunity. I have no regrets: my English improved significantly, and since the education there is more theory-focused, it complemented the practical approach of my studies at Széchenyi University very well. In addition to my studies, I also had the chance to travel across the country,” he shared.

Virág Ligeti, a Master’s student in Human Resource Management, spent a full semester at the International Business Academy in Kolding, Denmark, from late August last year until mid-January. “My main goal was to improve my English skills. In just a few months, I progressed from an almost beginner level to being able to work at a company where I use English every day,” she said about her experience.

Márta Mészáros, Head of the Mobility and Scholarship Unit at the Centre for International Programmes and Alumni, stated that students will have the opportunity to participate in the Pannonia Scholarship Programme in the 2025–2026 academic year as well. This initiative not only contributes to their personal development but also enhances their employability. The university has partner institutions in 43 countries across South and North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, from which students can choose their destinations.

“Our University is committed to ensuring that students are well-informed about the Pannonia Scholarship Programme, encouraging them to gain international experience. In addition to hosting informational sessions, we have organised interactive events such as 'MobiliTEA' and 'Me and My Country' in collaboration with our international students to inspire Hungarian students to study abroad,” emphasised Márta Mészáros.

She added that the programme offers both long-term and short-term mobility options. Students can spend 2–12 months at an international university to study, conduct research, or complete an internship. The short-term mobility programme, lasting 2–30 days, provides excellent opportunities for participation in conferences, short study programmes, and research projects.

The amount of funding varies depending on the destination country and type of mobility. For long-term mobility, students can receive HUF 350,000–400,000 per month, while for short-term stays, they can receive HUF 5,000–35,000 per day. Additionally, students of master’s, undivided and doctoral programmes may qualify for an excellence scholarship of HUF 450,000–500,000 per month if they undertake a 1–6 month study period at a university ranked in the top 250 of the Times Higher Education’s or Quacquarelli Symonds’ world rankings, particularly in fields related to natural sciences, technology, IT, and mathematics.

Márta Mészáros highlighted, that applications for the 2025–2026 academic year are open until 16 March and can be submitted HERE. Additionally, students still have until May to apply for short-term mobility opportunities for the current semester, allowing them to gain further knowledge through professional programmes and internships.

As part of the programme, nearly 30 students specialising in technological design, mechanical engineering automation, and vehicle engineering, as well as doctoral students, will travel to the Czech Republic for five days starting on 17 March. Dr Szabolcs Szalai, from the Department of Vehicle Manufacturing and Technology and leader of the group, explained that the students would visit Dormer Pramet, a cutting tool manufacturing company located north of Brno in Šumperk, as well as its partner firms. Here, they will gain insights into coating, tool manufacturing, and metrology technologies, significantly contributing to their professional development.
