Nearly 350 students graduated this year from the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences of Széchenyi István and about 100 from the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences. The graduates received their diplomas at ceremonies held on 17 and 18 July at the University Hall.
Speaking at the event, Dr Attila Pongrácz, Dean of the Apáczai Faculty, said that the Faculty currently offers eight bachelor's degree programmes, including an English-language degree in International Studies, four master's degree programmes and more than 20 postgraduate programmes. In addition, they are continuously developing short study programmes that provide development opportunities for institutional and corporate professionals using a training methodology, taking into account the aspects of digitalisation and sustainability. "All this is backed up by a high quality infrastructure, thanks to previous developments, continuous maintenance and the energy renovation of the main faculty building, which was completed in the last academic year," he said.
Dr Adél Nagy, Director of the Győr School District Centre, recalled in her speech that she obtained her first teaching degree here 21 years ago, and thanked the University and the faculty for the supportive partnership. "For more than 20 years, the approach, the commitment and the social engagement, which is also reflected in teacher training, have been an example for me, providing not only a basis but also a constantly renewing and secure background for the school district centre to provide education, upbringing and related fields", she emphasised.
At the ceremony, it was revealed that this year's “Teachers for Students Award” went to Dr Viktória Gősi Kövecsesné. A number of students also received awards at the event. At the ceremony of the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences, Dean of the Faculty, Dr Angéla Somogyi stressed that the growing interest in health science courses and the ever increasing number of applications show that the future health professionals trust the institution. In this spirit, it has entered into a partnership with the Hungarian Research Network, with which it conducts basic and applied research in the natural and life sciences; it has signed a partnership agreement with Semmelweis University; and in May it inaugurated the first completed building of the MedTech Health Technology Campus in the former hospital complex at Zrínyi Street in Győr. The facility will house a health technology incubator house, the country's first “Pető Point” and health services for university citizens," he said.
Dr Zorán Belics, Associate Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, reminded the graduates to take every opportunity to learn from more experienced colleagues and to acquire all the skills that will be useful to them in the future. "Keep educating yourself, as science is constantly changing and up-to-date knowledge is always a huge advantage," he advised.
