Hiking in the Pilis mountains

Dear International Students!
The Hungarian Club organizes a full-day hiking trip to the most scenic place in Hungary, which offers a breath-taking panorama of the Danube bend. We will go on a hike to the Pilis mountains, which is not only famous for the best scenic views of the Danube bend, but it has also a long history of being the most sacred & spiritual place of Hungarians.
 
When: Saturday, May 14 th , 2022
Departure: 6:30am
Estimated return to Győr: about 8:00pm
Meeting point: Mobilis bus parking lot, university campus

What to wear:
strong hiking boots a MUST-WEAR!!! – The trail can be difficult and steep, the terrain is rocky, you will also have to climb rocks; therefore, for your own safety, NO SPORTS SHOES, please! You need a backpack with strong straps, so your hands are free to climb and get a grip when needed. Comfortable pants, several layers of tops, a sweater, a wind jacket, a hat. Bring a raincoat – it’s important in the mountains.
 
What to bring:
food for one day (breakfast, lunch, dinner), min. 2 liters of water (on the hiking trail no water refill possibility, only in the village before the hike), snacks to boost your energy level: chocolate or muesli bars, nuts, etc. IMPORTANT: one pair of extra socks and one plastic bag in case your feet get wet, and bug repellent.
 
Hiking distance:
about 12-14km. The trail has several long steady inclines and steep hills, slippery rocks, and difficult terrain.
 
Duration:
6-7 hours
 
Level of difficulty:
moderate to challenging – FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS & FIT PEOPLE!!!
At certain parts, the trail can be challenging and steep, the terrain is rocky/covered with gravel, long, steady & steep inclines that can be challenging at times, and you will also have to climb rocks and metal ladders near waterfalls, and cross creeks on slippery stones.
 
Physical condition:
You must be in good physical condition to trek & hike for 6-8 hours, with long, steady inclines, up to a total of about 14km, considering the challenges in elevation as well.

550m up and down

Dömös – Rám szakadék (gorge) – Vadálló Kövek (unique rock formations) – Prédikálószék (the plateau called ’pulpit’ on top of the mountain with a view of the Danube bend) - Pilisszentlászló
 
IMPORTANT ADVICE: THIS TRIP IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS WHO HAVE NEVER HIKED BEFORE!!!
