Huawei's scholarship programme worth tens of millions of forints launched at Széchenyi University
Hungarian students can develop the technology company's new operating system and 5G business-industrial applications During the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education in Barcelona, it was announced that Széchenyi István University, Győr, has joined Huawei Technologies Hungary’s global university cooperation programme. The SEEDs scholarship programme aims to support talent development and student research into industrial applications of 5G, such as in rail logistics, manufacturing and warehousing. The scholarship fund, worth tens of millions of forints, can also be used for student projects that include the development of test applications, including for Huawei's own operating system, Harmony OS.
UNESCO hosted the World Conference on Higher Education in Barcelona, where it was announced that Széchenyi István University, Győr, will join the Huawei Global Scholarship Programme, which will include a fund of tens of millions of forints for students at the University. The Huawei SEEDs Scholarship Programme was launched in 2021 in twelve countries across Europe to help the most talented and ambitious students develop their careers. In addition to the announcement, the University and the company also renewed their 2016 strategic partnership agreement. This was signed by Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice Rector for International Affairs and Associate Professor at Széchenyi István University, and Radosław Kędzia, Vice President of Huawei's Corporate Region for Central and Eastern Europe and the Nordic countries.

Speaking at the Barcelona conference, Radosław Kędzia, Vice President of Huawei's Central and Eastern Europe and Nordic Countries, said, “In 2008, we launched our global talent development study programme, Seeds for the Future, which has so far attracted around 3,500 European students with great success, so we decided to expand SEED and create a global scholarship programme. In Hungary, we have the earliest institutional cooperation with the University of Győr, which is doing excellent work in education, business and research."
Under the programme launched at Széchenyi István University, the scholarship fund will support projects by students, student teams and their mentors who are looking for solutions for the industrial use of 5G mobile communications in areas such as rail logistics, manufacturing or warehousing. Project work will include the development of test applications, including for Huawei's own operating system, Harmony OS.

The cooperation between Huawei and Széchenyi István University started in 2014, with the first Seeds for the Future programme in Hungary, which has taken several students on study trips to China. In 2016, the company donated a high computing capacity computer to the University, and in 2020, the Huawei ICT Academy educational programme was launched at Széchenyi István University, which provides an opportunity for teachers and students to learn about new perspectives and trends related to 5G technology or the use of network devices in the industry, as well as Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. For years, the company has been supporting the World Telecoms Day conference at the University and jointly organising technology roadshows for students.
Huawei at the service of talent
Huawei has partnerships with around 2000 universities worldwide to support the ICT professionals of the future. In Hungary, Huawei launched the Seeds for the Future programme in 2014, which enabled seventy-five Hungarian students to visit China and see cutting-edge ICT technology solutions at the company's Shenzhen headquarters. Between 2020 and 2022, more than 150 Hungarian students participated in the Online Seeds programme. The Seeds for the Future programme aims to provide development opportunities and guidance to ICT talent in their fields. Students can learn about advanced technologies in the ICT industry and build up specific expertise and skills, contributing to the development of the global ICT industry.
