II WHB Győr Rally, Co-Organized by SZE, a Major Public Success
Screeching tyres, exhilarating speed, and electrifying performances: that is what the spectators experienced at the II WHB Győr Rally, a city event spanning Széchenyi István University’s campus and Dunakapu Square. The rally was a resounding success, drawing record crowds who not only enjoyed the thrilling displays but also gained deeper insights into the world of motorsport through the University's programmes.
The WHB Győr Rally, held for the second time between 6 and 8 September, attracted a record number of visitors this year: the three-day event, which included eleven high-speed stages, attracted nearly 20,000 spectators. An important innovation compared to last year was that the two most popular stages - the Rábaring in Écs and the city centre stage at the SZE Campus - were held on two separate days, so that visitors did not miss the most exciting parts of the race.
Visitors to Sunday’s stage on Dunakapu Square were treated not only to dizzying bends and spectacular speeds, but also to the motorsport-themed displays of Széchenyi István University. The Institution's Vehicle Industry Research Centre, the e-sport department of its sports club (SZESE) and the Career Guidance and Marketing Centre offered interesting programmes for all attendees. In addition to go-karting, e-sport simulators and other games, the University's student racing teams were on show, including the world record-holding electric vehicle of the SZEnergy Team, the engine developer SZEngine and the Arrabona Racing Team, which excels in the Formula Student series. For the Institution, the event served to promote motorsport as well as to provide guidance for people interested in a career in technical fields.
The Győr Rally, the fifth round of the HUMDA National Rally Championship, was won by the experienced duo of Miklós Csomós and Attila Nagy with a 14.3-second advantage, and they were the best in the final fast stage in the city centre as well. "It was great to return and see such a large crowd gathered at the city centre stage. Events like this are exactly what the Hungarian rally scene needs, and it is fantastic to see the strong support from Győr and the University. Families enjoy attending, with a variety of attractions such as the show element and the easily accessible Rábaring, not to mention the forest stages. The event offers diversity, ensuring there’s something for everyone in this sport,” said Miklós Csomós “Mixi”.
