Dr. Árpád Tóth, receives the Kalmár Prize from the Neumann Society
Each year, the Neumann János Computer Science Society awards the Kalmár Prize in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of computer science. This year, Dr. Árpád Tóth, Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics, Finance, and Controlling at Széchenyi István University, and Head of the Economic Research Group on Digital Corporate Reporting at the Vehicle Industry Research Centre, was one of the two recipients of the prestigious award.
Dr. Tóth’s research focuses on the analysis of economic processes and systems using large datasets. Notably, his work on the globally adopted XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) framework, which supports the digitisation and automation of business and sustainability reporting, plays a key role in his research. XBRL facilitates the linking of diverse reporting data in a standardised and structured format, ensuring the reliable and transparent management of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) information. Dr. Tóth has particularly concentrated on the relevance and comprehensibility of corporate sustainability disclosures, with a focus on the automotive sector. His findings will contribute to the advancement of accounting and corporate information systems, as well as the processing of available data sources.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Tóth has made significant practical contributions to digitisation and applied computing in recent years. His work on "continuous auditing" and "continuous monitoring" procedures provides effective tools for real-time analysis and quality control of digital corporate reports.
