Lucrative career opportunities attracted the Chinese student of SZE to Győr
Zhang Sicong from China came to the Széchenyi István University to gain a truly broad range of knowledge, where he is studying for a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering after completing his Bachelor's degree in Vehicle Engineering. The international student was attracted by the industrial opportunities in Győr and after his years at the University he would like to put the knowledge he has gained here to use at a large company in Győr.
The number of international students at the University is growing steadily, with nearly a thousand young people from around 80 countries now making up the community. The 29 years old Zhang Sicong from Shiyan, China, a city of more than three million people, has embarked on an ambitious journey here, as he studying for a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering after completing his Bachelor's degree in Vehicle Engineering. The young student, who has been studying at the university since 2019, was also attracted by the presence of Audi in Győr and the pleasant environment.
“Győr is a calm city, I think it is much more liveable than Budapest. People are nice, friendly and they smile often,” shared Zhang Sicong. He added that although he had some language difficulties with the locals, it did not interfere with his integration and did not hinder him in his daily routine. It is often the attentiveness and helpfulness of the local people that helped him to overcome the obstacles.
Besides learning, he also got to know the Hungarian culture and even the local food. His favourite dish is goulash and he regularly goes to the bakery for freshly baked bread. In his spare time, he likes to use the sports fields behind the halls of residence of the University, where he often plays basketball.
Zhang Sicong was also impressed by the infrastructure and organisation of the university campus in Győr, as well as the openness of the lecturers. “The University is an advanced, well-organised institution with modern technology and a modern approach, where everything is in place for students to achieve their full potential. The teachers are very helpful to foreign students, as they know that we all come from different backgrounds, have different levels of knowledge and do not speak Hungarian. They teach taking these factors into account, which makes our situation much easier,” he added.
The Chinese student would like to stay in Győr after finishing his studies because he wants to work for an international company such as Audi. To this end, he has started learning Hungarian, as he believes that being able to communicate not only in English but also in Hungarian is an advantage when applying for a job.
Zhang Sicong, from Shiyan, China, is currently studying for a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Széchenyi István University, and in his free time he enjoys playing basketball on the University's sports court.
