Brief description of the programme:

The programme focuses on protecting children’s rights and wellbeing in the digital environment. It combines legal, technological and psychological perspectives to address digital risks and harms affecting children and youth. Graduates will be able to analyse these challenges, develop child-rights-based policies and strategies, and work collaboratively with key stakeholders to promote safe and responsible digital environments.

Structure of studies

The total number of credits required to complete the programme is 60 credits. The courses are divided into five categories: child and youth protection law (23 credits), technological and digital law studies (17 credits), psychological studies (12 credits), optional subjects (minimum 3 credits), and thesis work (5 credits). 1 credit equals one ECTS credit, and 1 credit is defined as 25 student working hours.)

Language requirements

TOEFL 513 / IELTS 5.5 /oral examination, TOEFL IBT test score of 66 (issued in the last two years).

Certificate of any standardised international English language exam corresponding with Hungarian B2 at the Bachelors level and C1 at Master’s level issued by an accredited language centre/ academic institution.

In case the student has completed his/her previous level of studies in English, proof can be uploaded about the fact that the language of instruction was English, issued by the institution.

If the uploaded document(s) do(es) not meet the above-mentioned requirements, the University relies on an online language interview.

Academic requirements

Bachelor’s degree relevant for the Master studies. Transcript of records of Bachelor studies.

Programme educational objectives:

PEO#1 Graduates will apply interdisciplinary knowledge of law, psychology and digital technologies to help the enforcement of children’s rights in offline and digital environments.

PEO#2 Graduates will contribute to the development and implementation of policies, strategies and regulatory solutions addressing digital risks and harms affecting children and young people.

PEO#3 Graduates will work effectively with key stakeholders—including public institutions, educational organisations, civil society and international partners—to promote a child-rights-based approach in policies, practices and decision-making related to children in the digital environment.

PEO#4 Graduates will engage in continuous professional development, research and knowledge dissemination to support evidence-based decision-making and awareness-raising on children’s rights in the digital age.

Student Outcomes:

The student outcomes (SOs) of our programme represent the skills, knowledge and behaviours that our curriculum aims to impart to our students. The Digital Child Rights and Youth Protection Master Programme defines seven SOs (1) to (7) to guide student development as follows:

1. Graduates will demonstrate advanced knowledge of children’s rights and child and youth protection, including their legal frameworks in international law, European Union law and national legal systems.
2. Graduates will analyse the functioning of digital environments and identify risks and harms affecting children and young people.
3. Graduates will apply interdisciplinary knowledge from law, psychology and digital technologies to assess child-related risks in digital contexts.
4. Graduates will interpret and apply legal rules and regulatory frameworks related to children’s rights, data protection and digital safety.
5. Graduates will develop policy, regulatory or organisational recommendations addressing children’s rights and child protection in digital environments.
6. Graduates will communicate professional analyses, findings and recommendations in a clear and structured manner in both written and oral form to specialist and non-specialist audiences.
7. Graduates will work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and demonstrate ethical responsibility and a child-rights-based perspective in their professional activities.

Graduates of the programme can pursue careers in institutions and organisations working in the fields of children’s rights, child and youth protection and digital governance. They may work as experts, advisors or analysts in public administration, child protection authorities, international organisations, NGOs and research institutions. Career opportunities also include positions in educational institutions, regulatory bodies, digital platforms and organisations dealing with online safety, data protection and child-rights-based policy development.
