March 15: Several staff members and partners of SZE awarded high state honours

Professor Dr István Stumpf, a constitutional lawyer, university professor at Széchenyi István University, former Constitutional Court judge, and Minister of the Chancellery, was awarded the Széchenyi Prize in recognition of his exceptionally valuable scientific career for Hungary, his outstanding research in political science—particularly in the analysis of the state order and constitutional state—his extensive and significant publication activities and his dedicated and successful contributions to education and public life.

Professor Dr. Miklós Neményi, a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, professor emeritus at Széchenyi István University’s Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár and lecturer at the Department of Biosystems and Food Engineering, as well as Chair, Scientific Committee of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, was also awarded the Széchenyi Prize. He received this prestigious honour in recognition of his exceptionally valuable scientific career, his research in the field of sustainable food production technologies, his scientific advancements in agricultural digitalization and precision crop production technologies, as well as his outstanding contributions to education and research organization.

The Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (Civil Division) was awarded to Dr János Honvári, economic historian and professor emeritus, Dr János Szép, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Transport Sciences and Associate Professor and to Zsuzsanna Váginé Varga, Director of Human Resources Management. The Hungarian Silver Cross of Merit (Civil Division) was awarded to Adrienn Erdős, financial specialist of the Financial and Accounting Directorate.

Dr László Palkovics, a Széchenyi Prize-winning mechanical engineer, full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, former minister, university professor at Széchenyi István University and government commissioner for artificial intelligence, was awarded the Commander's Cross with Star of the Hungarian Order of Merit (Civil Division). He received this distinction in recognition of his significant leadership role in the innovation of Hungary’s automotive industry, the modernization of vocational and higher education and his outstanding contributions to the development and expansion of a competitive Hungarian defence industry.

The Artist of Merit of Hungary Award was presented to László Hefter, a Ferenczy Noémi Prize-winning glass artist and restorer, who designed and created the glass body of the Széchenyi rector’s sceptre, crafted by goldsmith Barna Bardocz.

Béla Sztojalovszky, economist, automation engineer, former staff member of the University's computing centre, and key contributor to the multimedia publication “Győr, the University City of the Future”, was awarded the Hungarian Bronze Cross of Merit (Civil Division). He currently serves as chair of the board of trustees of the Hungarian Soul Foundation.
