The aim of the programme is to acquire a higher level instrumental repertory in classical music; a deeper knowledge of the characteristics and requirements of the solo, or piano concerto and chamber music. The programme focuses on the awareness of the appropriate performance style for different genres and periods, the study of specific theoretical and historical material, the acquisition of methods for understanding complex music, the use of analytical tools, and a specific and comprehensive knowledge of the disciplines (theoretical and historical) related to the performing arts. The graduates will be prepared to do research in their given specialization, and to take part in further studies at the doctoral level.
Structure of studies
The total number of credits needed to complete the programme is 120 credits. 1 credit equals one ECTS credit, and 1 credit is defined as 25 student working hours.
Language requirements
- TOEFL 513 / IELTS 5.5 /oral examination, TOEFL IBT test score of 66 (issued in the last two years).
- Certificate of any standardised international English language exam corresponding with Hungarian B2 at the Bachelors level and C1 at Master’s level issued by an accredited language centre/ academic institution.
- In case the student has completed his/her previous level of studies in English, proof can be uploaded about the fact that the language of instruction was English, issued by the institution.
- If the uploaded document(s) do(es) not meet the above-mentioned requirements, the University relies on an online language interview.
Professional requirements
Instrumental audition requirements (for both the in-person and online entrance examinations):
- One work or works in the Baroque style
- One work or works in the Classical style
- One work or works in the Romantic style
- One work or works in the Impressionist style or from the 20th century and contemporary repertoire.
In case the applicant has difficulty attending the live audition, a video recording may also be accepted, which must match the following criteria:
- The pieces must be performed from memory.
- The video must show the whole body of the performer(s).
- The pieces may be recorded separately; however, no editing is allowed within a movement or between movements.
- The recordings should be uploaded either as a single video file or one video per piece, as unlisted YouTube links or cloud links, where the jury can view the videos directly in the browser without needing to download them.
Additionally, please note that there is usually a musical proficiency test as part of the entrance exam.
The Faculty will decide whether remote participation is required.

Programme educational objectives:
The programme aims to train highly skilled and versatile clarinettists with advanced technical and musical proficiency, focusing on solo, orchestral and chamber music. Students deepen their stylistic interpretation through historical and theoretical studies and develop tools for independent analysis of complex works. After completing their studies, graduates in Violin MA will be able to:
PEO#1 Demonstrate advanced proficiency in clarinet performance across a wide range of musical styles, underpinned by a historical and stylistic awareness; a comprehensive, high-level knowledge of solo, piano concerto and chamber music repertoire and a wide range of technical tools.
PEO#2 Apply the comprehensive knowledge of music theory, music history and analytical tools acquired during their studies to deepen their understanding of complex musical works and enhance their interpretative choices.
PEO#3 Use advanced methods and learning strategies to approach challenging repertoire, enabling continuous artistic growth and self-directed learning.
PEO#4 Graduates will gain skills in arts management and in music education presentations.
Student Outcomes:
The graduates of the Master’s course will acquire:
- Mastery of instrumental techniques and the ability to meet the specific performance requirements of
the piano in solo, chamber music and piano concerto repertoire.
- The capability to understand the specific requirements of piano accompany and chamber music.
- The ability to recognize and interpret different styles and perform them accurately.
- The ability to perform on stage in collaboration with other musicians, demonstrating
professional ethics behaviour, and effective communication.
- The comprehensive knowledge required of a professional musician,
including specific fields of music theory and history.
- The methods to acquire a deeper understanding of theoretical and historical materials,
as well as analytical tools.
- A thorough knowledge of arts management and dissemination of music.
