The course is aimed at those who are interested in modern technology and cybersecurity issues and their impact on the state, society and economic actors. Graduates in Modern Technology and Cybersecurity Law will be able to manage IT functions that support an organisation's cybersecurity, model and design cybersecurity information technology processes, identify and define emerging problems, formulate possible solutions to them, and incorporate best practices into the organisation's cybersecurity mechanisms. The programme will ensure that students are able to identify the processes that pose a potential threat to governmental, economic and social subsystems generated by cyberspace and related technologies, to understand the legal regulations associated with them, and to identify the need for and be able to draft the necessary regulations within the organisation. They will also be able to identify and use modern technological tools in their organisation in an innovative way, being aware of the relevant legal context and being able to apply it in their daily work.


Structure of studies

The total number of credits required to complete the programme is 120 credits. The subjects of the programme are divided into three categories: compulsory subjects (101 credits), thesis (11 credits) and optional subjects (8 credits).


Language requirements

TOEFL 513 / IELTS 5.5 /oral examination, TOEFL IBT test score of 66 or any standardised international English language exam corresponding with Hungarian B2 at the Bachelors level and C1 at Masters level.
If there is no standardised English exam, the University relies on an online interview. Applicants not complying with language requirements must enrol in a preparatory language programme. After having completed the language course and passed the requisite final examination, if there are no professional reservations on the part of the Faculty, admission to the selected Master’s programme is automatic.

Programme educational objectives:

Modern Technologies and Cybersecurity Law MA Programme at Széchenyi István University is designed to equip graduates with the knowledge, skills and attributes necessary for successful careers in the field of cyber security. Our programme educational objectives (PEOs) are as follows:

PEO#1 Students will be able to understand the concepts and processes related to the operation and architecture of information systems and the range of potential offensive tools, and to continuously develop their skills in this field.

PEO#2 Graduates will be familiar with the international security environment and will be able to monitor changes in it and respond to these circumstances in internal organizational policies if necessary.

PEO#3 Graduates will be able to systematically overview the cybersecurity legislative environment, identify the tasks arising from it and communicate them to the management of their organization, and initiate the necessary changes resulting from them. Students will acquire knowledge of the standards related to cybersecurity.

PEO#4 Students will be able to organize and contribute to cyber security awareness activities and create events, programmes to raise the level of consciousness in their organization.

Student Outcomes:

The student outcomes (SOs) of our programme represent the skills, knowledge and behaviour that our curriculum aims to impart to our students. The Modern Technologies and Cybersecurity Law MA Programme defines eleven SOs (1) to (7) to guide student development as follows:

  1. The ability to understand the basic operation and design of modern technology devices and systems, with a commitment to continuously expanding this expertise.
  2. The ability to apply basic programming skills to support cybersecurity tasks.
  3. The ability to apply and stay current with legal frameworks in cybersecurity, understanding both regulatory and scientific aspects.
  4. The ability to perform information system security tasks and support the development or refinement of an IT security policy within an organization.
  5. The ability to identify and incorporate changes in legislation, security, and organizational needs into cybersecurity policies.
  6. The ability to collaborate effectively with IT security professionals, communicate cybersecurity needs to management, and prioritize these needs based on regulatory and practical considerations.
  7. The ability to engage with external cybersecurity authorities, assist in security audits, report incidents in compliance with regulations, and contribute to organizational and public awareness of cybersecurity.

Job opportunities:

As cyber security is constantly evolving, new opportunities are appearing in the field of job opportunities. In line with the comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the training, graduates as modern technologies and cyber security organizers can manage and coordinate cybersecurity initiatives. So, they will be able to find a job both in private and in public sectors, e.g. as cybersecurity awareness coordinators, cybersecurity program managers, cybersecurity compliance officers. Additionally, the graduates can be employed at cybersecurity authority contact points. The diploma obtained is recognised as equivalent in the European Union.
