Nearly 200 Graduates Earn Degrees at SZE’s Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences

"Human life is like a stream..." — with these words of István Fekete, the writer and former agricultural student of Óvár who was born 125 years ago, the graduation ceremony of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Széchenyi István University began on 4 July. Nearly 200 graduating students received their diplomas, becoming members of a community that represents the oldest and one of the most tradition-rich bases of agricultural higher education in Hungary.

Higher-level agricultural education in Europe began 207 years ago in Mosonmagyaróvár — a legacy fittingly honoured in the recent diploma awards ceremony at Széchenyi István University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.

In his speech, Dean Dr Tamás Tóth emphasized: “The mission of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences is to train professionals in the spirit of digital technologies, precision agriculture, sustainability, and environmental awareness, who — through the latest scientific results and practical experience — are able to contribute to a more livable and sustainable future. Your generation plays a key role in this endeavour. You are not just witnesses but active shapers of a new era based on the balance between technology and harmony with nature.” He added that the diploma symbolizes the knowledge, dedication, and work students have accomplished over the past years.

At the graduation ceremony, community awards were also presented. The Student Government honoured outstanding contributions to university life, community building, and student advocacy with the Pro Auditoribus diploma distinction. Recipients included: Benedek Czuppon, Medárd Pankasz, Réka Johanna Szöllőskei, Enikő Marcsik and Dzsenifer Petra Tóth. On behalf of the graduates, Ferenc Ferdinánd Sinkó delivered the farewell speech — he was also awarded the bronze Pro Auditoribus distinction. In his personal remarks, he emphasized that the years spent here meant more than just studying — they were about building community, forming friendships, and embracing shared values.

On behalf of the city of Mosonmagyaróvár, Mayor Miklós Szabó congratulated the graduates, while Zsolt Kovács-Csomor, President of the Óvári Agricultural Alumni Association, also extended his congratulations. Graduates additionally received certificates naming them Honorary Citizens of Mosonmagyaróvár.

During the ceremony, special diplomas were awarded to Dr Zoltán Ács, Chief Veterinarian and Head of the Agricultural Department for Győr-Moson-Sopron County and external lecturer of the faculty, for his high-level contributions as well as to Professor Emeritus Dr Károly Kacz in recognition of his exemplary scientific and educational work.
