Nearly 500 New Engineers Graduate at SZE Ceremony

The three engineering faculties at Széchenyi István University have held their graduation ceremonies. This academic year, almost five hundred students graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering, the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Vehicle Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences.

Győr has a long tradition of engineering programmes, which, thanks to the dedicated work of the past period, now offer students modern, practice-oriented education and unparalleled professional opportunities. It is no coincidence that Széchenyi István University has become the most important higher education institution in the region, and the popularity of engineering and IT programmes is growing year by year. This is reflected in the number of graduates at the recent graduation ceremonies: around 200 students at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering, more than 170 at the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Vehicle Engineering and almost 100 at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences successfully passed their final exams and received their diplomas this academic year.

In his speech at the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics and Electrical Engineering, Dr Zoltán Horváth, Dean of the Faculty, called on the graduates to prepare for the future. "As a final homework assignment, I would like to give you the following: make an actual plan for the career you want to pursue in your life and how you want to achieve it," he said. The Dean encouraged young people to keep learning and to develop, mentioning as an example that the faculty also intends to implement new courses, further training and revised curricula in the spirit of development and modernisation.

On behalf of the graduates, Kriszta Evelin Farkas and Mejouli Ons from Tunisia, who both studied Business Informatics, said farewell to the University. The ceremony also included the presentation of the Teachers for Students Award, which was presented to Master's student Antal Lukács. The Pro Auditoribus Award was presented to Anna Gertrúd Cimerné Fábián, Balázs Olivér Gombolai and Gábor László Rémai for their outstanding student community activities and to Petra Orsolya Hering for her silver award. The Reinhold and Carmen Würth Foundation's academic prize was awarded to Máté Sebestyén, a graduate in Mechanical Engineering.

The graduates of the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty’s Environmental Engineering and Regional and Environmental Economic Studies programmes also received their diplomas at the ceremony for the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Vehicle Engineering. The graduates were welcomed by Dr Gábor Dogossy, Dean of the Faculty. "In today's constantly evolving world, the knowledge acquired here is no longer enough, you will need further development - either in the form of courses organised in the workplace or training provided by educational institutions. Our doors are open to you, whether you want to try a new field or take your current profession to the next level," he said.

The ceremony was held in English by Dr Dénes Fodor, Vice-Dean for Industrial and Strategic Relations, who stressed the importance of perseverance. He stressed that the value of the diplomas awarded is enhanced by the international recognition of Széchenyi István University, as evidenced by its excellent performance in higher education rankings.

On behalf of the students, Viktoria Szögi and Simon Wakpal from Ghana said farewell to the institution. The Pro Progressum Student Award for professional contribution to the development of organisations at the University was presented to Dániel Tibor Balogh, Róbert Fürdős, Gergely Mekota and Simon Wakpal, while Máté Boros, Bence Szőcs and Imre Tóth received a certificate. Mátyás Tutervai, President of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Architects and Vice President of the Hungarian Chamber of Architects, greeted the participants of the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences, and welcomed the enrichment of the profession with the newly graduated, quality-educated graduates of SZE.

Dean of the Faculty, Dr János Szép, reminded the graduates that the knowledge, skills and abilities represented by the diploma are more important than the degree itself. "It is not some kind of universally applicable final qualification, but rather a set of keys to thinking like an engineer, to recognising engineering problems and solving them in an engineering way," he said. He added: "The knowledge of those who are now graduating will be much needed in Hungary and across Europe”.

Vice-Dean, Dr Majid Rad Movahedi, addressed the international students. "We encourage our students to be creative, to think outside the box, and we emphasize respect for others' ideas and openness. We believe that these principles are the basis for educating true global citizens".

On behalf of the graduating students, Zsolt Szűrös and Alkhayyat Murad Azzam said farewell to the university. At the ceremony, Szabolcs Orbán was awarded the Pro Progressum commemorative certificate. Gábor Horváth, Veronika Mogyorósi and Zsófia Tóth received the Pro Auditoribus Award plaque and Zsanett Vajas received the certificate.
