"I didn't choose Győr, Győr chose me," says Rebeca Mendoza, who came to Széchenyi István University from Mexico in 2018. We talked to the now graduate student, who currently lives and works in Budapest, about the motivating power of the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship, the international student community in Győr and the cultural differences between the two countries.
The non-Hungarian players of Széchenyi István University’s top class women's basketball team, Uni Győr-Mély Út, which is based on the University campus, are not only attracted by the high quality of the Hungarian championship, but also by the University’s international atmosphere, the colourful campus life, the quality restaurants and the proximity to Budapest and Vienna. Jordin Canada, Beatrice Mompremier and Szabina Oroszova have taken a liking to Győr and to Hungary.
On Puskás Day, held in the Hungarian pavilion of the World Expo, three Hungarian universities presented their sports-related activities alongside technology companies interested in sports innovation. Széchenyi István University demonstrated the link between sport and technical innovation. The presentation attracted the interest of several potential partners, which will lead to new international collaborations with the Győr-based higher education institution.
