Preparation and development of SZE’s Health Technology Campus underway

The University is developing a Health Technology Campus in the former hospital complex located in Zrínyi Street, Győr, and the first building is now almost complete. The current state of the large-scale development was inspected by members of the senior management of the University and the mayor of the city, Dr Csaba András Dézsi.

The former hospital located in Zrínyi Street was one of the most prominent building complexes, most elements of which are protected as historical monuments. The building was one of the former premises of Petz Aladár Hospital, then under the Asset Allocation Act it was taken over by Széchenyi István University. The University is developing a Health Technology Campus on the 2.7 hectare site. Dr Csaba András Dézsi, mayor of Győr, was informed about the realisation of the project by members of the senior management of the University during a tour of the premises.

Topics at the event: the investment is set to increase the level of education at the University, the research of the innovative health technologies and to improve the quality of health services for staff, students and the region. Among other elements, the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences will be located here with elderly care and rehabilitation also planned to be facilitated here.

The renovation of the buildings is set to be done in multiple phases, of which the first – the reconstruction of Building Q – is already nearing completion. Parallel with this, preparatory works for the whole property are currently ongoing. The feasibility study showcasing the prospective functions will be finished towards the end of the year.

“I have been mayor for four and a half years and locally elected representative of Győr-Nádorváros for thirty years, and I believe that this development is as important for the district and the city as the fact that the Leier Company rehabilitated the neighbouring Frigyes barracks a decade and a half ago and reconnected it to the bloodstream of Győr. The former iconic hospital complex is now in the good hands of Széchenyi István University, where - along with myself - many medics and doctors have carried out some of their work. I am very happy that it will be revived and will have functions that meet real needs,” said the mayor about the development.
