Summer Means Bridge Garden: Carson Coma, Quimby and Kispál Take the Outdoor Stage at SZE
This year marks the fifth year of Győr’s only permanent open-air stage, the Bridge Garden. Between May and October, the country’s most popular performers take to the banks of the Danube Moson, allowing audiences to enjoy almost every major act from Hungary’s light music scene. The courtyard of the Széchenyi István University student club opened its gates on 9 May with a performance by 30Y and will close the season on 11 October with a concert by Tankcsapda.
A few years ago, an open-air stage in the courtyard of the Bridge Student and Teacher Club at Széchenyi István University was still something of a rarity. Today, however, it has become an integral part of the city’s cultural life, offering a festival-like concert experience for locals and those from the surrounding area over several months. The concept has proven successful, with interest increasing further last year. This year, Bridge Garden enters its fifth season, and due to the high attendance, it continues to expand in both area and duration: compared to previous years, it welcomes even more performers and now runs from early May until mid-October.
“We first opened the courtyard during the Covid period, and in hindsight, I must say it was excellent timing. Back then, bands had few opportunities to perform, so we managed to build long-term relationships with many of them. Five years ago, we were almost alone in this endeavour, but since then, more and more open-air clubs have appeared in the countryside, as organisers have recognised the demand from both performers and audiences. We are frequently cited as a good example in many places, which we naturally appreciate, and we continue to strive to meet the high expectations,” said the Manager, Péter Németh-Bende.

For the first time in the club’s history, Ganxsta Zolee és a Kartel performed on the Bridge Garden stage this year, as part of the band’s anniversary tour around the country. Also debuting here this year were Blahazol, the joint performance of Blahalouisiana and Ivan & The Parazol, and the Quimby concert is eagerly awaited by many. Among the major returning acts, special mention goes to Kispál és a Borz and Follow The Flow, who return to the Bridge Garden for the first time since 2020. Notably, the farewell tour of Margaret Island will also include the Széchenyi István University club, allowing fans to see their favourites on the banks of the Danube Mosoni.
“The audience loved the acoustic evenings, and we’re planning more of those this year. There will also be occasions where an afterparty will follow the concerts inside the venue—one example being the ‘Golyó-style’ rock disco. We’ve also made sure to avoid clashing with major local events, such as Győr’s summer opening or closing weekends,” added Péter Németh-Bende, who also revealed that this year saw technical improvements in several key areas.
“As the standard of the productions rises year by year, we must also adapt to the expectations of performers and audiences. This year, the stage was expanded with a larger preparation wing and is now covered. Our LED wall has also grown compared to last year. Previously, we moved the barrier depending on the show elements performers brought, but now we’ve permanently moved it one metre further out to make room for pyrotechnics. We also considered the atmosphere after the concerts: once the live shows end, themed music will play on the terrace until closing time—hopefully to the satisfaction of our guests,” concluded the business manager of the Bridge Student and Teacher Club.
