SZE Again Among the World’s Leading Higher Education Institutions in QS World University Rankings
Széchenyi István University has once again been ranked among the world’s leading higher education institutions in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, published on 19 June. The University of Győr has retained its position, owing particularly to its contribution to sustainability, strong corporate relations, quality of education, and diverse international community.
QS, one of the most recognised international university ranking organisations, releases its latest rankings every June. In the current edition – as in the previous year – Széchenyi István University was ranked in the 1001–1200 range, marking its fifth consecutive year in the global elite. The prestige of the ranking is underscored by the presence of globally renowned institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford, and Harvard from the USA, as well as the Imperial College in London, Cambridge and Oxford from the UK.
This year’s edition is unique in that it features universities from more countries than ever before: over 1,500 institutions from 106 countries, setting a new record in QS history. This not only reflects an increase in the number of institutions but also broader geographical coverage. The intensified competition is evident, with the compilers analysing nearly 20 million academic publications and collecting 1.5 million academic and 500,000 employer votes. Széchenyi István University has managed to maintain its position within this highly competitive international field – a major professional achievement.
The QS World Rankings confirm that Széchenyi István University offers high-quality education to its students.
A new feature in this year’s ranking is an indicator measuring international diversity, which considers not only the proportion of international students but also the diversity of their nationalities. Széchenyi István University performed exceptionally well in this respect too: currently, young people from 79 different countries study at the University, creating an unparalleled level of cultural diversity. This openness is also reflected in the University’s research activities. In recent years, its academic community has achieved significant results and established increasingly close international collaborations. This is further evidenced by the growing number of visiting professors.
“Széchenyi University was first included in the QS World Rankings in 2021 and has maintained its position ever since. This year’s excellent result is primarily due to our institution’s significant contribution to sustainability, excellent corporate reputation, high educational quality, and increasingly diverse international community – all of which are underpinned by the dedicated, high-quality work of our colleagues, for which we are deeply grateful. This result is therefore not only recognition but also validation that our education, research, and close cooperation with economic and social actors provide real value and contribute to the development of both our students and the region,” stated Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations.
