SZE among the Best in Global THE Rankings for Engineering and Economics

For the first time in its history, Széchenyi István University has been included in two World University Rankings by subject by Times Higher Education at the same time. The institution debuted in the Business and Economics category, where it is tied as the best in Hungary, while also strengthening its presence in the Engineering category.

Times Higher Education (THE), one of the world's most prestigious international higher education ranking organisations, publishes its Subject Rankings every year. Published on 22 January, the 2025 ranking, which adopts the indicators of the World Ranking, analyses universities in 11 disciplines according to five indicators - teaching, research environment, academic publications, international relations and industry revenue. In the Engineering category, Széchenyi István University has been ranked for the second year in a row, solidifying its reputation in the 1251+ range. The quality of the rankings is reflected in the fact that the top ten universities include such renowned institutions as MIT (USA), Oxford University (UK) and Stanford University (USA).

The development of the Győr-based institution is reflected in its debut in the Business and Economics category, ranking immediately in the 601–800 range. In this field, it is tied as the best in Hungary. The top of the list is dominated by Harvard University, Stanford University, and MIT from the United States.

"This is THE's fifth ranking of our Institution. All of them are important, but the most important one, besides the world ranking, is the ranking in the field of study. The reason for this is that when international students choose a university, they primarily choose a city and a degree programme, i.e. in addition to the business environment created by the city, the services available and the natural environment, the international recognition of the chosen degree course and the lecturers is decisive for them. The current ranking is a confirmation of this, and we thank the dedicated staff of our business and engineering faculties. This excellent result is due in no small part to the prestigious international conferences organised by the University, our publication support programme, the increase in our internationalisation activities and the growth of our industrial revenues. The latter is helped by the fact that we have interests in more than a hundred companies and industrial property rights through our students, lecturers and colleagues", emphasized Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations of the Institution.

Széchenyi University is ranked 1501+ in THE's World Rankings, 501-600 in THE's "Young Universities" and Interdisciplinary Science Rankings, and 601-800 in THE's Impact Rankings, including the world's top 200 universities in the "Sustainable Cities and Communities" category.
