SZE makes it into the top 400 universities in Europe on QS rankings

Széchenyi István University has secured a place among the top 400 universities in the European rankings, published on 20 September by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), an international higher education quality assessment organization. The institution's success is primarily attributed to its excellent corporate reputation and high interest among international students in part-time study programmes.

QS, one of the two largest international organizations that assess higher education institutions, released the European university rankings for the first time on 20 September. Széchenyi István University is included in the ranking, occupying the 382nd position. The prestige of the list is evident as it is led by the University of Oxford, followed by the Zurich Institute of Technology, and the University of Cambridge.

In the ranking – which includes 690 out of nearly 3,500 universities from 46 European countries – there are 15 Hungarian universities, and based on the results, Széchenyi István University counts as the sixth best in Hungary. The institution has received outstanding recognition from companies and employers (ranking 142nd in Europe in this category), and has garnered significant international student interest in part-time study programmes (ranking 74th in this category).

"We have come a long way in recent years, which is reflected in our performance in international rankings. Our community is working hard to continue our ascent to the world's best, which is naturally not easy given the fierce competition. Therefore, our institution provides substantial resources to incentivize the performance of our colleagues. In this process, it is helpful that our University has been operating in a new structure for four years, offering more flexibility and greater freedom than before, and our innovation parks will provide a new dimension and additional advantage in the future. This current ranking is a great success, and I would like to express my gratitude to all colleagues, including Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations, and the staff of the University Library and Archives, who have played a significant role in the data collection and provision required for the rankings," emphasized Dr Bálint Filep, President of Széchenyi István University.

"Our excellent ranking shows that our University is among the best in Europe in several areas. Higher education institutions are measured on a global stage, and in this competition, we can only succeed by establishing international connections and by joining international networks in the fields of education, research, and publications. It is our priority to assist as many of our teachers, researchers, and PhD students as possible in becoming part of the international scientific community. In addition to our excellent infrastructure, our University allocates approximately 600 million HUF annually to support our colleagues' development in this direction, through scholarships, covering publication fees, subscribing to databases, and providing conference participation support," said Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations at the University. She also added that they are looking forward to the release of the world rankings by the other major university rankings organization, Times Higher Education (THE), on 27 September.
