SZE Plans New Student Hall of Residence in Mosonmagyaróvár

Széchenyi István University is planning to build a new, modern student hall of residence on its Mosonmagyaróvár campus to provide affordable, high-quality accommodation for students of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár in the long term. The project's design and construction plans have already been completed, and it has received all the necessary planning approvals. The next step is securing the necessary funding for implementation.

Providing students with modern, safe, and affordable housing throughout their studies is one of Széchenyi István University's strategic priorities. In line with this commitment, the University intends to replace the current hall of residence on Gazdász utca with a contemporary, nearly zero-energy building. The new facility would not only serve students but also provide accommodation for members of the teaching staff, researchers and the University's domestic and international guests.

According to the plans, the new building will have a net floor area of nearly 5,000 square metres. Spread over three levels, it will feature 138 twin rooms and apartments, providing accommodation for approximately 270 residents. The development also includes the construction of parking spaces and bicycle storage facilities. Following the completion of the conditional public procurement procedure and the availability of the required funding, construction could be completed as early as the end of 2028.

"The Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár continues to grow, with an increasing number of Hungarian and international students choosing our programmes. To sustain this growth in the long term, it is essential to provide modern student accommodation," emphasized Dr Tamás Tóth, Research Professor and Dean of the Faculty. He added that the University has completed all preparatory work, making the securing of financial resources the project's highest priority.

"We are confident that all stakeholders in the region recognize the importance of this development. We therefore seek the support of the region's Member of Parliament and the Municipality of Mosonmagyaróvár in securing the necessary funding. This investment will benefit not only the University but also the future of the city and the wider region, further strengthening Mosonmagyaróvár's role and attractiveness," the Dean said.

The proposed development is also strongly supported by students. "Access to quality student accommodation is one of the key factors when choosing a university. For my fellow students, it is particularly important to have modern, affordable housing with well-designed communal spaces located close to the campus," said Attila Tatai, President of the Faculty's Student Union. "A new residence hall would significantly improve students' quality of life, strengthen our University community, and make our faculty even more attractive to prospective students."
