SZE Postpones Academic Day to Focus on Flood Relief Efforts
Due to the extraordinary flooding on the Danube and its tributaries, there is a need for cooperation in order to avoid damage to human life and property. With water levels expected to crest in the second half of the week, Széchenyi István University has decided to postpone its annual Academic Day celebrations to mark the anniversary of the birth of István Széchenyi, scheduled for 19 September. A decision on the new date for the event will be taken later.
The institution is involved in the region not only through its training, research and development and innovation activities, but also through its social engagement, and as part of this; it is contributing to flood protection. The University is recruiting student volunteers and staff to help the North Transdanubia Water Management Directorate, and is providing accommodation for water professionals from other parts of the country in the Halls of Residence of its campus in Győr near the Moson-Danube.
