SZE Shines at EFOTT 2024 with Relaxation Zone and E-Sport Arena

At EFOTT, the largest student event in the country, there were a number of daytime activities to discover for festival-goers in addition to the evening entertainment. Among the exhibitors, higher education institutions were among those who presented themselves to the public: in addition to the dome of Széchenyi István University, which was transformed into a recreation zone, this year's event also featured a special e-sport arena for young people.

Compared to other Hungarian festivals of similar category and size, EFOTT stood out from the field in terms of daytime programmes. In addition to entertainment activities and sports games, the programme included lectures, workshops and panel discussions. The event's Universum area was home to university and public stands and NGO tents. The Széchenyi István University not only hosted the event with its dome, but also provided e-sport for the everyday life of the festival visitors.

"We created a chill zone where festival-goers could hide from the sun during the day. We screened movies on a large LED wall while they could relax in our air-conditioned dome. We also prepared refreshment programmes and a festival house for them," said Gergő Lőrincz, Head of the University's Career Guidance and Marketing Centre, who worked with several members of staff and Student Council to make the participants feel as comfortable as possible at the event.

"We have put a lot of emphasis on e-sport opportunities, which have proved popular with students. Visitors were able to try out our simulators and game consoles in the e-sport arena and in our truck, as well as take part in a drone football game. All of this also served as a career guidance tool, as we spoke to a number of people interested in continuing their studies with us in the future. Of course, many of our current students also visited us and felt at home here," added Zsolt Nagy, Head of the E-sport Department of the Széchenyi István University Sports Association (SZESE).

Interestingly, three students of Széchenyi University also performed at the festival: Zsolt Neubauer (Vox Vortex), a law student, at the DiákHitel event container’s stage, a member of the “Kollégiumi Stúdió”, Vilmos Varju (BassCrowz), a community organizer, at the Óbuda University stand, while Márton Várnai (Varning), a student of the Hungarian-taught Commerce and Marketing BSc, played for the audience of the Jägermeister Bar.
