SZE Student Wins Bronze at World University Rowing Championships

The World University Rowing Championships held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, ended this weekend with an excellent performance by the Hungarian team. Zsófia Csepel (Vác City Rowing Club, Budapest University of Technology and Economics) and Eszter Fehérvári (Győr Athletics Club, Széchenyi István University) won the lightweight double sculls in the preliminary race on Thursday, finishing second behind the Italians and confidently qualifying for the final, with the third best time out of the nine competitors. In Saturday's final, the team was second at the half-way mark and finished third behind the Polish and Italian doubles to claim bronze. The pair was prepared by Dr Zoltán Alföldi, a lecturer at Széchenyi University and head coach of the rowing department of the Győr Athletics Club.

They were joined by the Szentpáli brothers, Gergő and Balázs (Ferencvárosi Rowing Club, Eötvös Loránd University), who won the bronze medal for Hungary in coxless pairs.
