SZE Students Can Apply for Double Degree Programmes with Universities in Portugal, India, and Italy
This academic year, Széchenyi István University is launching three Double Degree Programmes with Portuguese, Indian and Italian universities, for which application is open to students until 15 September 2024. The four semester programmes include one and two semester stays abroad, for which substantial scholarship support is available.
Széchenyi István University is also seeking to promote the development of its students by expanding its international relations. To this end, it is launching a number of Double Degree Programmes, where participants will receive a diploma not only from Győr but from the partner institution as well.
This academic year, a Master's Programme in Tourism Management will be launched with the Technical University of Leiria in Portugal and Master's Programme in International Economics and Business with Integral University in India and University of Cassino and Southern Lazio in Italy. Applications for first-year students of the English-taught Master in Tourism Management and the latter two for first-year students of the English-taught Master in International Economics and Management are open until 15 September 2024.
"These Double Degree Programmes have many advantages. Participants can develop their skills and abilities in a real international environment, and gain new contacts in addition to receiving degrees from both institutions," underlined Dr Eszter Lukács, Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations at Széchenyi University, Programme Supervisor for the International Economics and Business Double Degree Master’s Programmes. Dr Éva Happ, Programme Supervisor of the Tourism Management Double Degree Master’s Programme, added that “students can also benefit a lot from studying abroad, as they enrich their experience with a lot of experiences.”
In the case of the Double Degree Programme with the Italian university, two semesters must be spent at the partner institution, in the other two instances one semester. In addition, Széchenyi University provides significant support through the Pannonia Scholarship Programme. The amount of the grant is HUF 350,000 per month for the stay in India and HUF 375,000 per month for the stay in both Italy and Portugal.
Victoria Apajalahti from Portugal, a student on the Tourism Management Double Degree Programme, said, "I applied for the Double Degree Master's Programme in Tourism Management because I saw an opportunity to learn more about the tourism industry and to experience studying at another university. The course selection at the University of Győr was interesting and complemented my studies at the other university. I was also curious to experience university life and culture in Hungary, make connections, and gain experience. The advantage of the Double Degree Programme for me was to gather a wider knowledge of the tourism industry, especially in the European context and the possibility of staying in Győr for three months making new connections while travelling and enjoying Hungary and central Europe " she stressed.
The University also runs a Double Degree BSc Programme in Civil Engineering with Jiaxing University in China. Jingjie Zhang, a Chinese student, believes that having two degrees from two institutions will greatly help students to find a job and increase their global competitiveness. She also sees many benefits in learning about the culture of another country. “The programme allows me to experience and learn from both Chinese and European cultures, broadening my understanding of Civil Engineering from multiple perspectives. The chance to study in two distinct academic environments is particularly appealing, as it will enrich my skills and knowledge, preparing me for a successful career in the field," she added.
