SZE Team Driver Takes Silver at Italian Go-Kart Championship
Széchenyi István University is striving to become the number one higher education institution in Hungary in the field of motor sports. In this spirit, the Uni Győr WMS go-kart team was established at the beginning of the year, and its driver, Vilmos Willisits Jr., has been on the podium in six races of the Italian Easykart Championship this year, finishing second overall.
Széchenyi István University is not only a major player in the field of automotive engineering and research and development in the field of mobility and alternative transport, but is also an increasingly active participant in the sport of motorsports. A year ago, a department was founded within the university sports association, and in the spring the Uni Győr WMS go-kart team, which was established at the beginning of the year, was presented.
One of the team's talented youngsters, 13-year-old Vilmos Willisits Jr. (Vilo), competed in the Italian Easykart international series this year. The young driver, winner of last year's Czech championship, has finished six of the seven races (Castelletto, Jesolo, Cremona, Lonato, Cervia, Castelletto, Franciacorta) on the podium, triumphed once and finished fourth in the European field. This performance earned him second place overall. Two of the races (Jesolo and Franciacorta) also counted towards the Easykart Euro Trophy championship, where he also finished second overall at the end of the year.

The driver's father, Vilmos Willisits, head of the UNI Győr WMS team, said that the Italian championship is a very prestigious series, and it is perhaps enough to mention that Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who has just joined the Mercedes Formula 1 team, also appeared in this series, where he was noticed by team manager Toto Wolff. This year's Cremona race also saw Toto Wolff's son start, who was helped on the track by his famous father.

"Vilo has completed his ninth season in karting. To achieve his results, he prepares hard for the races, taking part in various training sessions almost every day of the week. He cycles, goes to the gym and does other complementary sports. When there is no race on the weekend, he tests and trains with go-karts. He also sees a sports psychologist, a coach and a foreign language teacher to help him perform even better. I can safely say that he has done an above-average amount and quality of work over the last two years to achieve his goals," said the team leader father, who thanked Széchenyi István University for its support and calm background. "It is an honour for us to compete under the auspices of the University, whose coat of arms we proudly wear," he concluded.
Vilo will be competing in another big event on the first weekend of October, when the Easykart World Finals will be held in Franciacorta.
