SZE Triumphs in Polish Ice Hockey Tournament
The ice hockey team of Széchenyi István University, UNI Győr ETO HC, has achieved a significant success by winning the 3rd Malopolska Winter Cup in Poland, which was held in the framework of the EUHL (European University Hockey League). In the first game, the team faced the host UHT Sabers and won 6:4. Interestingly, the Polish team also featured Bendegúz Vadócz, who has been playing in Poland as a legionnaire this season.
The second match was against Philosophers Nitra from Slovakia, with whom Győrie had a close encounter last season. This time, however, there was no question who would take the three points as the final score was 13:3 in favour of the Hungarian team.
The final match was against last year's EUHL runners-up, Gladiators Trencin from Slovakia. UNI Győr ETO HC had already met them this season, losing 5:3 at home. This time they came back with a 6:1 win. This win also meant the first place in the tournament, which is made all the more valuable by the fact that no Hungarian university team has ever won such a cup in the history of the EUHL.
