The National Media and Infocommunications Authority Supports the Research and Development of SZE
This year, the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) is contributing HUF 110 million to support Széchenyi István University’s activities in telecommunications, infocommunications, digitalisation education, and research and development. The authority has maintained an excellent relationship with the institution for many years, and thanks to this support, the University will be able to offer even more scientific opportunities to its students, lecturers, and researchers.
Széchenyi István University has long been closely linked to the work of the NMHH, with its education and research-development portfolio connected to the authority’s areas of activity. Since its founding in 1968, the Győr-based institution has played a significant role in Hungarian telecommunications education and now offers students the latest technologies and the most up-to-date professional knowledge. In terms of research and development, it also holds a prominent position in telecommunications, media law, electronics, and artificial intelligence—areas of strategic importance to the authority.
The two parties signed a renewed general cooperation agreement in 2022, and in recent years, this excellent professional partnership has reached even greater heights. This year, NMHH is providing Széchenyi University with HUF 110 million in support for the implementation of professional programmes, education, and research, as well as for the development of the telecommunications, digitalisation, and infocommunications sectors. Through this contribution, the authority supports the University’s research into space communications, cybersecurity, and quantum communication, its satellite development, the advancement of its electronics laboratories, and its child protection initiatives. The University is also using the funds for student awards, scholarships, professional excursions, conference organisation, and curriculum development.
“NMHH is pleased to support young researchers through the scientific workshops of Széchenyi István University in better understanding the universe around us, especially in areas closely linked to the authority’s activities. These include, for instance, the world of radio wave-based networks and space communications, or cybersecurity—which is closely tied to one of NMHH’s key strategic goals: ensuring freedom and security in the digital world. As part of our cooperation, the authority provides a scholarship each semester to two full-time students studying engineering informatics or electrical engineering who achieve outstanding academic results. We believe that the discoveries and innovations of young researchers will enrich us with knowledge that may form the basis of future telecommunications developments,” said Dr András Koltay, President of the NMHH, regarding the collaboration.

“The authority considers cooperation with higher education and scientific institutions to be of great importance, and the partnership with Széchenyi István University is an excellent example of this. The institution’s scientific activity and its teaching relationships with students create a knowledge base that we can put to excellent use in our technical, consumer protection, legal, and economic work. With our financial support this year, we are assisting initiatives aligned with NMHH’s profile that promote innovative professional research and new technological solutions. These bring mutual benefits and advantages to both parties,” said Dr András Lapsánszky, NMHH’s Vice President for Communication and Head of the Department of Public Administrative and Fiscal Law at Széchenyi University’s Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. He emphasised that this partnership has already contributed many useful outcomes to the authority’s work in recent years. He added that Széchenyi István University is conducting research, organising events, and engaging in publishing activities in several innovative areas related to infocommunications and media. These efforts support the application of new technologies, the advancement of regulatory implementation, and the strengthening of digital consumer protection awareness.
