The new collection of papers of the professors and students of SZE strengthens internationalisation

Communication, culture and language has come into focus in the recently published volume containing 17 studies by the Department of International Studies and Communication of Széchenyi István University. In accordance with the institution’s strategic objectives, the authors include professors from a wide range of faculties, as well as Hungarian and foreign students studying at all three degree levels.

Continuing the tradition of previous years, the electronic volume entitled “Communication, Culture, Language II”, which contains both Hungarian and English scientific articles, was published by the Department of International Studies and Communication of Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences of Széchenyi István University. This is the fourth part of the series that was orginally launched in 2018, which promotes cooperation among faculties, talent management and the internationalisation objectives of the university.

With this series we can present the scientific work carried out by our professors and students. While the first two volumes were online publications that were strictly focused on given thematics, the latter two are far more open synthesising,” dr. Kecskés Petra, the editor of the series and an assistant professor of the Department of International Studies and Communication of Széchenyi University formulated. In connection with the former volumes of studies she added that topics included cultural values determining standards of behaviour, the exploration of helping and inhibitory factors of intercultural cooperations, the presentation of employees’ motivations and commitments and international student mobility. The third volume revolved around the topics of communication, culture, and language, as does the present volume.

“Our recent volume is more open than ever, not only because of the broader interpretation of the topics, but also because the compilation goes well beyond our department. We consider international professional cooperation and the cooperation among faculties important, so in the spirit of this, colleagues and students from the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics have also got involved in the work,” dr. Kecskés Petra emphasized. She highlighted that the volume is an excellent tool for talent management. The fact that their articles are published in the volume is a great opportunity for the students as the preparation of this article is a scientific activity during which they can acquire new knwoledge and experience. It is not a coincidence that students of bachelor’s and master’s courses, and the PhD students have also had their work published in the volumes.

In the future we would like to broaden the cooperation among faculties and fields of science, with this we could provide an opportunity for many more colleagues to participate in the scientific work,” the editor of the series highlighted.

Among the strategic objectives of Széchenyi István University, internationalisation occupies an important place, as a result of which today young people from 65 nations form the community of students. There are approximately 800 foreign students studying in almost 40 English language university training courses, which offer the opportunity to acquire modern knowledge.

“In the current published volume – beyond the fact that lectors and authors include foreign professors and students as well – internationalisation is listed as a separate topic. Among others we examine the cultural sensitivity of national and international students, we present the value system of foreigners arriving at the university, the cultural similarities and specificities. This knowledge is especially important in such an international community as our university,” the assistant professor explained. She added that there is a two-way mobility as an example; the co-editor of the previous volume is currently continuing her PhD studies in South Korea.

“We encourage our students to undertake the writing of scientific articles because appearing in such a volume has several advantages. Preparing an assignment or a thesis work is significantly different from a scientific publication because it has to meet a completely different set of requirements. As well as gaining experience, they will get involved in the scientific community and, with the help of their mentor, learn the skills needed to produce really good articles,” dr. Kecskés Petra closed.

The volume is available in full length online, while the previous volumes can be downloaded from here: https://ntk.sze.hu/letoltheto-tanulmanykotetek-1.
