The ceremonial handover of the one-year presidency over the Alps-Adriatic Rectors' Conference (AARC) was held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at the Aula Magna Hall of the University of Rijeka Rectorate. The esteemed guests were welcomed by Madam Rector on Friday, May 25, 2018, prior to the AARC Scientific Committee Meeting held at the Conference Hall of the Student Center's Café ''Akvarij'' at the University of Rijeka Campus.
The Rectors' Conference has 47 member Universities from Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Serbia, and Slovenia. It was founded in 1979 and next year it will mark its 40th anniversary.
The welcoming speeches were held by Mr. Vojko Obersnel, M.Sc., Mayor of the City of Rijeka, Ms. Emina Višnić, Director of the ''Rijeka: European Capital of Culture 2020'' project, and Mr. Marko Mataja Mafrici, Representative of the Primorsko-goranska County, County Councilor.
Madam Rector addressed the attendees and guests: "The University of Rijeka is dedicated to fulfilling the motto of the Rector's Conference, ''Unity in Diversity'', as well as fostering excellence, solidarity, and diversity. It is a tremendous honor, and a great responsibility to take over the AARC Presidency. I am pleased to have this particular honor in the year in which we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the University and the 385th anniversary of high education in Rijeka. During my one-year presidency, I will strive to follow the Jesuit motto – Semper magis, always more.''
The ceremonial handover of the AARC Presidency was held prior to the working session of the AARC General Assembly, where the members discussed the proposed AARC activities and the future of AARC. This year's General Assembly of AARC was of great significance, as it aimed at forming a strategy for the upcoming four-year period from 2018 to 2022.
