XVII. International Student Conference on Mechanical Engineering

Students from all technical universities across the country, and even beyond its borders, are invited to participate in the XVII. International Student Conference on Mechanical Engineering. With a history spanning nearly two decades, the event serves as a meeting place, a competition, and a platform for building industrial connections. Registration is open until 2nd March.

The idea to create a programme where young students from technical universities across the country could exchange experiences and showcase their knowledge first emerged among the students of Széchenyi István University in 2006. However, the event has always been much more than just a competition: it connects companies in the Western Transdanubian region with young professionals, offers insights into real-world projects, and fosters a strong sense of community. Over the years, the conference has grown into an international event, attracting an increasing number of foreign higher education institutions in addition to Hungarian universities. A unique feature of the programme is that it is entirely organised by university students under the supervision of the student union.

The International Student Conference on Mechanical Engineering focuses on solving practical problems, where participants seek solutions to real industrial challenges and present their own research findings or project work. The event’s goal is not only to support professional development but also to strengthen collaboration between industry and education while fostering relationships that contribute to students’ future careers.

Businesses have a great demand to involve students in their ongoing projects. During the competition, participants work in randomly assigned teams to solve complex engineering problems posed by companies – all within just a few days. The original concept of the event, established back in 2006, has not only stood the test of time but has also become increasingly relevant in the 21st century: the competition provides practical, hands-on education within an engineering student competition framework, allowing participating companies to benefit from valuable solutions – and, more importantly, discover talented students.

As per tradition, this year’s programme will begin with a car meet on Széchenyi István University’s Győr-campus on 13th April, followed by team challenges the next day, with the event concluding with presentations and the awards ceremony on 16th April. The conference, which includes various entertaining activities, networking events, and outdoor cooking gatherings. A report on last year’s event can be found here.
