Graduates of SZE’s Faculty of Design and Performance Arts Leave with Valuable Knowledge
More than one hundred students have graduated this year from Széchenyi István University’s Faculty of Design and Performance Arts. Music graduates—and, for only the second time in the institution’s history, design programme graduates—received their diplomas during ceremonies held on 5 July.
Following the diploma ceremony of the University’s Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár, the Faculty of Design and Performance Arts also held its own graduation ceremonies—one for graduates of music programmes and another for those completing design studies.
"Everyone carries enough in their “satchel” to confidently take the next step, whether it's knocking on the doors of music schools, orchestras, or choirs. Remember: though the student years have flown by, learning remains a fundamental part of your life—as master’s students, as artists, or as teachers," said Dr Csaba Hontvári, Dean of the Faculty, addressing the new music and music education graduates. At the design graduates' ceremony, he recalled that the programmes in architecture, design and graphic design launched in 2021 have seen steadily improving conditions thanks to the University’s support. Today, the Design Campus is housed in the Győr Innovation Park, opened in 2023.
During the ceremonies, several awards and recognitions were presented. For outstanding community involvement, the Pro Auditoribus certificate of merit was awarded to Csenge Knyazoviczki, Viola Sára Csabai, Judit Zoé Horváth and Mandula Réka Makra. Certificate-level awards went to Szilvia Losonczi, Gréta Szabó and Nikolett Turay; a bronze-level award was given to Veronika Molnár. Gréta Szabó also received a Pro Progressum certificate of merit.
For the best diploma concert and comprehensive final exam, recognition was awarded to Aporka Novák and Réka Panna Szegedi (both from the BA in Performing Arts, Classical Recorder Performance specialization), Levente István Fehér (MA in Classical Instrumental Music, Oboe Performance specialization), and Gizella Erzsébet Vízhányó (BA in Performing Arts, Classical Cello Performance specialization). For outstanding final exam teaching performance, commendations went to Virág Nikolett Baranyi-Egri (Music Teacher Programme, Piano specialization) and Loretta Karvalics (Music Teacher Programme, Clarinet specialization). The best thesis awards went to Kata Szászvárosi (Undivided Music Teacher Programme, Voice Teaching specialization) and Anna Krisztina Cséfalvay (Undivided MA Music Teacher Programme, Violin Teaching specialization).
To honour the memory of the renowned Hungarian violin maker, István Kónya, who held the title of "Gold Wreath Master," his son and grandson—violin makers Lajos Kónya Sr. and Lajos Kónya Jr.—established a prize in 2015. Each year, it is awarded to a talented string instrument student who demonstrates outstanding academic performance. This year, it was presented to Richárd Lázok, a student in the MA programme in Classical Instrumental Music, Violin Performance specialization.
The “Teachers for Students” award, based on student votes, was given to Associate Professor Dr Balázs Szabó.
During the music graduates’ ceremony, two retiring staff members—Teréz Bakos-Tripolszki and Katalin Váray-Szűts—were also bid farewell.
