The aim of the programme is to acquire a higher level instrumental repertory in classical music; a deeper knowledge of the characteristics and requirements of the solo, orchestral and chamber music. The programme focuses on the awareness of the appropriate performance style for different genres and periods, the study of specific theoretical and historical material, the acquisition of methods for understanding complex music, the use of analytical tools, and a specific and comprehensive knowledge of the disciplines (theoretical and historical) related to the performing arts. The graduates will be prepared to do research in their given specialization, and to take part in further studies at the doctoral level.
Structure of studies
The total number of credits needed to complete the programme is 120 credits. 1 credit equals one ECTS credit, and 1 credit is defined as 25 student working hours.
Language requirements
- TOEFL 513 / IELTS 5.5 /oral examination, TOEFL IBT test score of 66 (issued in the last two years).
- Certificate of any standardised international English language exam corresponding with Hungarian B2 at the Bachelors level and C1 at Master’s level issued by an accredited language centre/ academic institution.
- In case the student has completed his/her previous level of studies in English, proof can be uploaded about the fact that the language of instruction was English, issued by the institution.
- If the uploaded document(s) do(es) not meet the above-mentioned requirements, the University relies on an online language interview.
Professional requirements
1. Two contrasting movements of a J.S. Bach sonata or partita (original or transcription), or from the Solo Sonata by C.P.E. Bach.
2. Two movements from one of the Mozart Concertos, including a cadenza.
3. A concert piece from the 19th or 20th century of your own choice.
4. A contemporary solo work written after WWII. (Avant-garde style and extended techniques are preferable.)
Please note the following important details:
- At least one of the pieces must be performed from memory.
- The video must show the whole body of the performer(s).
- Piano accompaniment is required.
- The pieces may be recorded separately; however, no editing is allowed within a movement or between movements.
- The recordings should be uploaded either as a single video file or one video per piece, as unlisted YouTube links or cloud links, where the jury can view the videos directly in the browser without needing to download them.
Additionally, please note that there is usually a musical proficiency test as part of the entrance exam. The Faculty will decide whether remote participation is required.
The deadline for submission is May 29th, which is the date of the official live audition.

Programme educational objectives:
The programme aims to train highly skilled and versatile flutists with advanced technical and musical proficiency, focusing on orchestral and chamber music. Students deepen their stylistic interpretation through historical and theoretical studies and develop tools for independent analysis of complex works. After completing their studies, graduates in Flute MA will be able to:
PEO#1 Demonstrate advanced performance skills in a wide range of musical styles on the flute, with historical and stylistic awareness, a high level of comprehensive knowledge of technical, musical, orchestral and chamber music repertoire.
PEO#2 Apply music theory, comprehensive historical knowledge, and analytical tools to deepen their understanding of complex musical works and enhance their interpretative choices.
PEO#3 Use advanced methods and learning strategies to approach challenging repertoire, enabling continuous artistic growth and self-directed learning.
PEO#4 Graduates will gain skills in arts management and in music education presentations.
Student Outcomes:
The graduates of the Master’s course will acquire:
- Mastery of instrumental techniques and the ability to meet the specific performance requirements of the flute in solo, chamber music and orchestral repertoire.
- The capability to understand the specific requirements of orchestral and chamber music.
- The ability to recognize and interpret different styles and perform them accurately.
- The ability to perform on stage with a piano accompanist and other musicians demonstrating professional ethics, behaviour and communication.
- The comprehensive knowledge required of a professional musician, including specific fields of music theory and history.
- The methods to acquire a deeper understanding of theoretical and historical materials, as well as analytical tools.
- A thorough knowledge of arts management and dissemination of music.
Job opportunities:
Work in professional orchestras or build a freelance career as a soloist and chamber musician.
Graduates will be equipped to engage in academic research within their specialization and pursue further studies at the doctoral level if desired.
