Nearly two hundred graduating students of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Széchenyi István University received their degrees at a ceremonial graduation event on 3 July. The occasion not only celebrated the new graduates but also recognised professionals and partners who have made outstanding contributions to the Faculty’s development.

The joint development project of Oasis Technology Ltd., Virtualitica Ltd., and Széchenyi István University has reached another important milestone. The project integrates electricity generation and agricultural cultivation within a single intelligent system. This innovative solution was presented during a professional event organized as part of the GreenTech Plus European Union project at the Smart Farm teaching farm of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.

At the national final of one of the world’s most significant educational robotics-building and programming competitions, 161 teams and 416 competitors measured their robotics, programming and innovation skills at Széchenyi István University’s Győr campus. The best performers in the Hungarian final of the World Robot Olympiad 2026 will represent Hungary at the World and European championships.

Széchenyi István University’s Zalaegerszeg Innovation Park recently organised the Future of Vehicles: Innovation, Engineering and Economic Conference (FoV) for the second time this year. The two-day scientific event focused on the issues of future mobility.

The graphic design, architecture, and product design programmes launched in 2021 at the Faculty of Arts of Széchenyi István University have since gained nationwide popularity: this year, the third cohort graduated from the undergraduate programmes of the Design Campus, while the first cohort completed master’s studies. For the fifth consecutive time, the student team developing an electric vehicle at Széchenyi István University has triumphed in Europe’s largest energy efficiency competition. The SZEnergy Team secured first place at the Shell Eco-marathon held at the Silesia Ring in Poland with a new world record of 332 kilometres per kilowatt-hour, surpassing their own record set last year. The young engineers from Győr outperformed more than twenty university teams from across Europe.

The SZEnavis team, made up of students from Széchenyi István University, took part as the only Hungarian entrant in the 20th German Concrete Canoe Regatta, where 70 university teams from eight countries competed. The Győr-based team achieved its greatest success to date: in the mixed doubles category, they reached the second step of the podium, while their men’s and women’s pairs also finished among the leading teams.

Four victories, four world records—this is the SZEnergy Team’s record over the past four years at the world’s largest energy efficiency competition, the Shell Eco-marathon. This year, the Széchenyi István University team aims not only to defend its title but also to surpass last year’s record; they recently presented their developments and their vehicle, already competing in Poland, at a rollout event.

For the seventh consecutive time, Széchenyi István University has been included in the sustainability ranking of the Times Higher Education higher education evaluation organisation. The institution improved its results in several sub-areas and continues to be among the world’s best based on its performance related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Following a highly successful opening day in Győr, the QS Higher Ed Summit: Europe 2026 continued in Budapest, with Széchenyi István University serving as this year's host institution. The principal theme of Europe's foremost higher education forum was how to strengthen the continent's competitive advantage in talent and innovation. The programme, which concluded on 25 June, brought together more than 600 leaders from academia, industry and government representing around sixty countries worldwide.

A major milestone in the history of the Arrabona Racing Team (ART) came last year when, after more than a decade of competing with internal combustion powertrains, the team switched to an electric drivetrain. Although the first car of the electric era featured numerous impressive technical innovations, its full potential remained unrealized due to initial reliability issues. In response, the Széchenyi István University student team significantly simplified and thoroughly tested the vehicle, aiming to move closer to the front of the field this season.

The globally recognised higher education analytics and ranking organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) will hold one of Europe’s most important higher education forums, the QS Higher Ed Summit: Europe in Hungary between 23 and 25 June. The prestigious event, bringing together more than 500 university leaders, policymakers, researchers and industry experts from 60 countries, will be hosted by Széchenyi István University, which will also welcome participants to a corporate-focused professional programme on the opening day at its Győr Innovation Park.

Representatives of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals recently visited the Győr campus of Széchenyi István University. The technical higher education institution has strong programmes in the study of petroleum and mineral resources, as well as in IT and engineering, areas in which it seeks to establish educational and research cooperation with the Hungarian side.

At its latest meeting of core members, the Doctoral School of Regional- and Business Administration Sciences at Széchenyi István University expressed its appreciation to two distinguished professors, Dr Lívia Mihályka Ablonczyné and Dr László Komlósi, for their dedicated service. The addition of new core members was also announced at the event, and a decision was reached regarding the handover of the leadership of the SZEEDS^M English-language doctoral programme, ensuring the continuity of the academic work.

The SZEngine Team has reached a significant milestone in its evolution from engine developers to race car constructors by unveiling its first self-built Formula Student vehicle, along with a newly developed hybrid powertrain that forms the heart of the car. Although the team will now compete independently, its members remain committed to the drivetrain development that has become their hallmark. In fact, more than half of the team continues to focus on engine optimization.

In May, the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) hosted its Military Operations Planning in International Law course in Tallinn, Estonia. Dr Roland Kelemen, Head of the Department of Modern Technology and Cybersecurity Law at Széchenyi István University, became the first representative from Hungary’s civilian higher education sector to participate in the expert-level legal training.

Six years ago, Bridge Garden opened as Győr’s only permanent open-air concert venue, and it is once again welcoming visitors for several months this year. From May to October, some of Hungary’s most popular artists will perform on the banks of the Moson-Danube, giving audiences the opportunity to enjoy virtually every major act on the domestic popular music scene, including BSW, Road, Quimby and Fiesta. The season will close on 17 October with a concert by Tankcsapda in the courtyard of Széchenyi István University’s student club.
