SZE Strengthens Ties with a Drone Services Company
On 15 January, Széchenyi István University reaffirmed its longstanding partnership with Drónkuckó, a company offering comprehensive remote sensing services. The leadership of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár and the company representatives at the University’s Smart Farm training facility signed the cooperation agreement, which covers drone technology training, support for student research projects, and international grant applications.
Social Event of the Year: Recognizing the Best of SZE at the University Awards Gala and Media Ball
At the University Awards Gala and Media Ball, the most prestigious social event in the region, accolades were presented to the outstanding educators, students, and alumni of Széchenyi István University, as well as the University Innovation Excellence Award. On January 18, the Győr City University Sports Hall was filled with ballgoers attending the event.

Milestone: SZE’s Formula Student Team Switches to Electric Category
After the most successful season in its history, the Arrabona Racing Team will replace the internal combustion engine with an electric engine and will compete in the electric category, announced the Széchenyi István University’s Formula Student team. The switch is a huge challenge, but also a new perspective: students will have the opportunity to try out the latest technologies of e-mobility in practice, thus gaining even more competitive knowledge.
SZE Open Day Draws 5,000+ Visitors with Quality Education and Modern Facilities
More than 5,000 people attended the Open Doors event of Széchenyi István University, where students were able to learn about the institution's quality academic programmes, its European-standard teaching and research infrastructure, its Halls of Residence and student life. Participants were informed in detail about the admission requirements for each degree programme, for which applications are open until 15 February.
Manufacturing Technology Advisory Board: SZE Engages Industry Leaders in Education Development
The aim of the advisory board established at Széchenyi István University is to develop the field of production technology and to provide practical training tailored to the needs of companies. The initiative of the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Vehicle Engineering focuses on the renewal and continuous review of mechanical and automotive engineering courses.
Educatio: EFOTT Host SZE at the Global Forefront with Cutting-edge Technologies
Széchenyi István University is a key participant of the Educatio Exhibition in Budapest, as this year's EFOTT will be hosted by the Győr-based institution. The agreement was signed at the opening of the event, which will take place from 9-11 January. The University's spectacular and surprising booth was open until Saturday at Hungexpo's Pavilion D, and on 14 January at the open day on the Győr campus.
Educatio Exhibition and Open Days: SZE to Showcase Academic Programmes on offer in Budapest and Győr
Széchenyi István University will showcase its offerings at a spectacular booth during the Educatio Exhibition in Budapest from 9–11 January and will host an open day on 14 January at its Győr campus. Visitors to these events can experience cutting-edge technologies such as agricultural drones, VR bicycles, and eye-tracking cameras. Additionally, they can try out the e-sports simulator, meet student teams, and even get a glimpse into the world of drone soccer.
SZEsnake: A Student's Game-Changing Creation
A self-developed board game, created by Donát Magda, a student of Széchenyi István University, has been named SZEsnake at the instigation of lecturer, Dr Katalin Kovács. The first version was designed for first-year students of Computer Science Engineering and Business Informatics programmes, but by changing the task cards, it can be adapted to any field of study.
Haberkorn Llc. Donates Unique Tech and Practice Laboratory to SZE
The high-end, modern equipment donated by the technical distribution company Haberkorn Llc. to Széchenyi István University serves the practical education of students. Thanks to the collaboration, the Department of Vehicle Manufacturing and Technology at the institution now offers the first Item profile demonstration and practice laboratory in the country, consisting of thousands of components. This enables students to assemble the designed machines and workstations on their own.
SZE Architecture Students Win Special Prize at Polish Competition
Two architecture students from Széchenyi István University participated in the Mood for Wood international workshop in Poznan, Poland previously. As part of a project team and under the mentorship of the Budapest-based architectural firm Partizan Architecture, the young students created a wooden lookout, which won a special prize at the recent Architectural Awards of the Wielkopolska Region.
Light in World Religions: International Students Unite for the Holidays at SZE
Széchenyi István University hosts a vibrant international student community of nearly 1,000 individuals from around 80 countries. In preparation for the holiday season, the institution organized a gathering titled "Light in World Religions," which proved to be a resounding success among participants.
SZEnergy Team: Three World Records and Continued Development by the SZE Team
Thanks to years of persistent work, the SZEnergy Team has reached the top: for the third time in a row since 2022, the team has won the energy-efficiency race of the Shell Eco-marathon European race in the Urban Concept category, and on all three occasions with world records, winning the trophy for the self-driving car category in the last two years. The team is not resting on its laurels, however, and is constantly improving its car to defend their title next year.
SZE and HUN-REN Join Forces Globally for International Projects
In the spring of 2024, Széchenyi István University in Győr and the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to promote joint educational, research, and innovation activities within international networks. On December 13, discussions were held between Dr Bálint Filep, President of the University, Prof Dr. Ferenc Friedler, Rector and Vice-President for Scientific Affairs, Kelemen Sárai-Szabó, a board member of the Széchenyi István University Foundation, and Péter Németh, Head of HUN-REN University Centre for International Excellence Network for Universities, along with Dr Balázs Gulyás, President of HUN-REN, Ádám Kiss, President of the National Research, Development, and Innovation Office, Roland Jakab, CEO of HUN-REN, and Krisztina Imrik, Scientific Secretary of HUN-REN. They reviewed past achievements and explored future opportunities for collaboration. They emphasized the success of the partnership, evidenced by the implementation of two international consortium projects in collaboration with prestigious foreign universities and research institutions.
Success Story: Drone Development Startup Exits from SZE
Széchenyi István University played a significant role in the success of ABZ Innovation Kft., a drone development company established three years ago in collaboration with a professional partner and an investment firm. The company’s market success stands as a testament to this partnership. At the end of November, the University sold a substantial portion of its ownership stake in the startup focused on drone development and manufacturing.
On the Role of the State: SZE’s International Legal Studies Conference
The Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University hosted the inaugural "The Role of States in the 21st Century" conference. Nearly 50 researchers, including from the United States, Czechia, Germany, Slovakia and Poland, presented at the event, addressing the responsibilities and challenges of states within the emerging global order.
Top Architecture Students Honoured at SZE Exhibition
An exhibition of the autumn semester works of the architecture students of Széchenyi István University has opened in the lobby of the New Knowledge building of the Institution. At the opening ceremony, the Student of the Year awards were presented and Jenő Molnár, the recently deceased professor of architecture, was also remembered. The event was also the occasion to announce the creative camp for talented young students to be held in Transylvania in the summer of 2025.
Chinese Students Explore Civil Engineering at SZE
Széchenyi István University has maintained an excellent relationship with Jiaxing University in China for years. Beyond the jointly launched English-taught Double Degree BSc Programme in Civil Engineering, the two institutions collaborate in educational, research, and corporate fields. Recently, 15 students from the Asian institution visited Győr to enhance their knowledge in civil engineering through a one-week short study programme.

Capturing Győr: A Lens on History and SZE
The concert hall of the Széchenyi István University, the former synagogue of Győr, is a multifunctional cultural space: it is home not only to the music programmes of the Faculty of Design and Performance Arts, but also to numerous exhibitions. In addition to the exhibition entitled Jewish Excellence, which opened in the summer, visitors can also view valuable Győr- and University-themed photographs taken by members of the Hungarian Photographers' Free University Association. According to László Molnár, president of the NGO, the photos show the essence of the city and the institution.
