Recently, lecturers from the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Széchenyi István University participated in the Regional Conference for Europe, organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), via online platform. Among the fifty member state representatives attending the programme in Tajikistan were Professor Gergely Bernáth and Dr Attila Kiss, Vice-Dean for Innovation. The latter also delivered a presentation.

The Budapest Innovation and Training Centre of Széchenyi István University recently hosted another stage of the professional event series focusing on medical technology innovations, organised with the support of the University and based on the LinQ Catalyst methodology of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In the latest phase of the Catalyst Europe programme, teams consisting of young mentees and experienced mentors worked on preparing their research plans.

The relationship between sport and health, opportunities for performance optimization, and issues related to mental well-being were at the centre of the 23rd National Sports Science Congress, jointly organised in Győr by Széchenyi István University’s Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences and the Hungarian Society of Sport Science. The event brought together leading national and international experts, who presented their latest research findings in the field.

Since 2018, Péter Őri has been preparing Hungarian automotive technician competitors for the European Championship of Professions (EuroSkills) and the WorldSkills Competition. His current mentee, Martin Albrecht, recently took part in an international competition in Canada, where he outperformed the entire field. His achievement is a promising sign ahead of the WorldSkills Competition to be held in Shanghai this September.

The world’s football audience will witness a historic moment at Saturday’s UEFA Champions League Final in Budapest: during the Paris SG–Arsenal match, hearing-impaired young people will serve as ball assistants. The work of the students of the Ezüstcipő Focisuli Foundation is supported by the further developed “Look At Me” signalling system, created in cooperation with researchers from Széchenyi István University.

The Sustainability Competence Centre of Széchenyi István University, together with the United Nations Association of Hungary and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO, recently organised the latest edition of the Majlis lecture series focusing on the values of the United Nations. Held at the Győr Innovation Park, the programme centred on sustainability in higher education, with renowned experts discussing the topic with Hungarian and international students of the University.

Innovative student projects were showcased recently at the Hungarian Startup University Program (HSUP) Demo Day event organised at the Győr Innovation Park of Széchenyi István University. During the event, ten teams presented their developments, with some of the best ideas including healthcare- and sustainability-focused solutions.

Mobility opportunities and research collaborations in Hungarian higher education were at the centre of the 21 May meeting of the Committee on International Affairs of the Hungarian Rectors’ Conference. The event, held at the Budapest Innovation and Training Centre of Széchenyi István University, also focused on expanding partnerships with China and Latin America.

Eleven students from the Győr Dance and Visual Arts Primary School, Vocational Secondary School and Dormitory, maintained by Széchenyi István University, participated in a study trip to Prague supported by the Pannónia Scholarship Programme. As part of this, the students were recently able to participate in the activities of the Prague Dance Conservatory.

Recipients of the University Research Scholarship Programme and the Cooperative Doctoral Programme presented their scientific work at a conference held at Széchenyi István University on 20 May. Attendees had the opportunity to listen to more than sixty presentations ranging from innovations in the automotive and health technology sectors, through research related to artificial intelligence, to new opportunities in healthy food production.

Students and researchers from Bavarian and Hungarian partner institutions recently arrived at Széchenyi István University for a multi-day professional workshop. During the programme, participants worked on the development and testing of self-driving algorithms, while also gaining insight into laboratories and research activities focusing on autonomous systems.

Teams composed of students and lecturers delegated by universities from member states competed against one another at the rehearsal event of NATO’s largest cyber defence exercise, the Locked Shields Partner Run. Hungary achieved its best result to date at the recent competition, finishing among the top three. Three engineering informatics students, two law students and one law lecturer from Széchenyi István University also contributed to the success.

Students of Széchenyi István University’s Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences once again achieved outstanding results in the European round of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition: Ferenc Dákai and Rebeka Mercédesz Kozma finished in sixth place at the competition held in Poznań, Poland.

On 14 May, Széchenyi István University and the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) organised their conference marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day for the 17th time this year. Renowned experts from the sector delivered presentations at the event, the Magyari Endre Awards were presented, and the University also officially inaugurated two new laboratories: one providing students with practical insight into quantum mechanical phenomena, and another serving as the site for the development of Győr’s future satellite.

The Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Széchenyi István University participated as a co-organiser in the regional consultation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, which served as preparation for the conference to be held in Tajikistan in May. The consultation focused on policy issues related to sustainable agri-food systems, aligning the role and contribution of the academic sector. The programme may also pave the way for the institution to host future FAO scholarship students.

On 7 May, Széchenyi István University’s Győr Innovation Park hosted a truly unique event, where several hundred visitors viewed the Audi Revolut F1 Team’s show car. The team includes a number of professionals who are former or current students at the University. During the day, three of them took part in a round-table discussion, offering insights into the world of Formula 1 to those in attendance.

Széchenyi István University has strengthened its academic programmes through a  European Union-funded development initiative, introducing new laboratories, modern digital equipment, and updated curricula. The results of the initiative are already tangible, while the implementation of certain elements is still ongoing.

Students and staff of Széchenyi István University won two gold, four silver, and three bronze medals at the country’s largest university sports event, the festival of the Hungarian University–College National Championship (MEFOB Fest). The event, held in recent days, attracted more than 1,500 athletes.

Students enrolled in the undivided five-year business programme of the private French institution IDRAC Business School recently visited Széchenyi István University. The group of nearly twenty first-year management students was welcomed by the leadership and staff of the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics with a range of professional and leisure programmes.

Numerous leisure and sports programmes, concerts and parties awaited the University’s students and visitors at the Széchenyi University Days. Among others, Desh, Beton.Hofi and Dzsúdló took to the main stage at the Bridge Students’ and Staff Club, while during the daytime the campus park served as the central venue of the event.
