More than 15,000 students began their studies at Széchenyi István University this September. First-year students took their oath at the opening ceremony of the academic year, thereby officially becoming members of the community. A number of scholarships were also awarded at the event.
An architectural camp was held in Abásfalva, a village in Szeklerland, with the support of the Pannónia Scholarship Programme, where students of Széchenyi István University’s Winkler Gábor Engineering College for Advanced Studies built an open community pavilion. The young people of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transport Engineering of the Győr-based institution achieved great success with their wooden structure, which was inspired by traditional folk style yet bears a contemporary appearance.

By the end of the Academic Year’s biggest student event, first-year students had truly become part of a community. Széchenyi István University is once again opening the doors to its popular Chinese language course, which invites participants of all ages to discover one of the world’s most fascinating languages. Children are introduced to Chinese through playful, interactive activities, while adults can enjoy an engaging and experiential learning journey. Applications are open until 10 September for the free autumn courses, which offer participants of all ages a gateway to a new culture.
On 3 September, at its headquarters in Budapest, Waberer’s International Nyrt. signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Széchenyi István University in Győr. The partnership focuses on developing a skilled workforce for the logistics and automotive sectors, joint research and development projects, and green logistics solutions that promote sustainability.
All of Széchenyi István University’s cybersecurity programmes have been included on the list of recognised qualifications and accredited international certifications compiled by the National Coordination Centre. As a result, graduates are officially qualified to take up key positions in Hungary as professionals responsible for the security of electronic information systems. This valuable accreditation not only reflects the high quality of the programmes, but also recognises the strong interdisciplinary approach within the field and the internationally significant research carried out at the University.
At the end of August, first-year students arrived at Széchenyi István University to tune in for the start of the semester within the framework of the traditional Freshers’ Week. Alongside informal entertainment and community building, the event – now a long-standing tradition – also serves to provide the most important information to newcomers, with the support of the student union, lecturers and senior students.
Széchenyi István University is collaborating with Shanghai Jiao Tong University—ranked among the world’s top 50 higher education institutions—to develop 5G-based intelligent rehabilitation and assistive robotic systems. Through the USA Accelerator Program of Széchenyi István University's Innovation Park in Győr, three high school students recently participated in a sports and skills development camp at the DME Academy in Florida. Thanks to this opportunity, the talented youngsters gained valuable experience in the United States.
Bettina Szelezsán came to Széchenyi István University for the high standard of its Master’s degree in Vehicle Engineering, where she gained valuable experience thanks to the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering and the Arrabona Racing Team student team. Today, the young professional works in Germany as an engineer for Hyundai Motorsport, while also sharing her expertise with current students of the Győr-based University as a lecturer in its Master’s programme in Motorsport Engineering.
Széchenyi István University, in collaboration with the University of Oxford, is hosting a text reading and analysis workshop on the Middle Bengali language until mid-August, attended by researchers of Bengali from 11 countries. The international scholarly programme has drawn experts from the United States, India, Bangladesh, France, and Canada, among others, who will jointly study writings from various historical periods and spanning numerous genres.
For the first time this year, Széchenyi István University will be represented with its own stand at the 40th Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, as a strategic partner of Hungaroring Sport Zrt. Széchenyi István University has launched a strategic dialogue with the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to deepen collaborations in higher education, research, and innovation. In this spirit, the ambassadors, and chargés d'affaires and representatives of the Philippines, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam in Hungary visited Győr, expressing openness towards the University's initiative.
Hungarian athletes achieved outstanding results at the Summer World University Games, commonly known as the Universiade. Among them were eight students from Széchenyi István University: one of whom was a member of the bronze medal-winning women’s basketball team, three competed in the women’s water polo team, placed seventh, and four earned commendable results in rowing.
Széchenyi István University is planning to acquire the Post Palace in Mosonmagyaróvár with the intention of both preserving historical value and generating new opportunities. The institution seeks to revitalize the emblematic building by assigning it a new function, acting in the interest of the town and the surrounding region. The University has initiated the purchase of the property—which has stood vacant for years—and is open to offering the ground floor for municipal use.
Széchenyi István University organised a tourism-focused summer university for international and Hungarian students within the framework of the Central European Exchange Programme for University Studies (CEEPUS). The ten-day programme welcomed not only Hungarian participants but also young people from Montenegro, Slovenia, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia and Moldova.
The series of summer graduation ceremonies at Széchenyi István University concluded on 18th and 19th July with the celebrations of the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences and the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics. Nearly 700 new graduates were honoured at these events. Over the past few weeks, more than two thousand students across the University’s nine faculties have received their diplomas.
Students from twenty universities sought sustainable solutions to real corporate challenges during the Audi Development Camp, a joint short study programme of Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria, held between 7–14 July. The results presented at the international camp’s closing event demonstrated that the participants are ready to face global challenges.

Széchenyi István University has reached another significant stage in the remarkable development of its Mosonmagyaróvár campus over the past decade: the complete renovation of the M-Club and its surroundings will soon begin, and advanced negotiations are underway with Magyar Posta Zrt. for the acquisition of the Mosonmagyaróvár Post Palace. This is the result of ten years of deliberate growth and strategic development, the foundation of which was laid by the integration of the institution and the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences in 2016 – a process whose preparations began as early as 2015.
Nearly 270 students graduated this summer from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Informatics, and Electrical Engineering at Széchenyi István University. The graduation ceremony was held on 18 July. Dr Orsolya Ferencz, Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research, personally congratulated the graduates in her keynote address.

In January, the Arrabona Racing Team announced that – following trends in the automotive industry and the Formula Student competition – it would replace the internal combustion engine with an electric drivetrain. Since then, the team has completed the first car of this new era, which it recently unveiled to the public. The model, named ART_12, will make its official debut in August in Croatia.

The 49th EFOTT Festival kicked off on 9 July: Hungary’s third largest festival hosts 10 music stages, over 120 performers, and 600 different programmes. "Human life is like a stream..." — with these words of István Fekete, the writer and former agricultural student of Óvár who was born 125 years ago, the graduation ceremony of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences at Széchenyi István University began on 4 July. Nearly 200 graduating students received their diplomas, becoming members of a community that represents the oldest and one of the most tradition-rich bases of agricultural higher education in Hungary.
A high-level American delegation led by Robert B. Evnen, Secretary of State of Nebraska, recently visited Széchenyi István University. This year, the conference entitled "Water We Want" was held for the fourth time at Széchenyi István University. With the support of Széchenyi István University and the involvement of its students, the ‘Cycling Without Age’ (Biciklivel kortalanul) programme has been launched in Hungary with the aim of promoting quality of life, mental well-being and social connection among older people.
