Széchenyi István University participates in the UNESCO international conference
Alongside diplomacy, education, science, culture and the arts also play a crucial role in building peace – this was the central theme of the international conference took place at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on 7 September. At the event, held in connection with the UN’s International Day of Peace on 21 September, Széchenyi István University was represented by Professor Eszter Lukács, the university’s Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations and a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Association of Hungary. International students from the university also took part in the forum.
Getting to know one another: SZE launched community-building with Freshers’ Week
In the first few days of September, first-year students arrived at Széchenyi István University to prepare for the start of the semester during Freshers’ Week. In addition to casual fun and community-building, the goal of this traditional event is to share vital information with the help of the Students’ Union, lecturers and upper-year students.
Educational and Cultural Cooperation: Chinese Embassy Delegation Visits Széchenyi István University
The education counsellor and second secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Hungary recently visited Széchenyi István University to discuss further opportunities for cooperation building on the existing partnership. In addition to the educational and cultural activities of the Confucius Institute at the Győr-based institution, the meeting also covered research and development opportunities, student and staff exchange programmes, and building the Chinese community in the region.
Renovated SZE Cuha Residence Welcomes Over 300 Students
SZE’s refurbished Cuha utca Hall of Residence will provide state-of-the-art accommodation for more than 300 students from the start of the new academic year. The University modernised the building, which previously served as a workers’ hostel in Győr, using its own funds, and it was unveiled during a press tour on 1st September.
Trainings and joint research: Széchenyi University and Gallus Group launch partnership
The collaboration established by SZE’s Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár, and the University’s spin-off company, Uni Inno Plc with Gallus Ltd and Taravis Ltd, both belonging to the Gallus Group, supports students’ professional development and industry experience, as well as the implementation of joint research, development and innovation projects.
Athletes from SZE brought home medals from the European Universities Rowing Championship
The SZE team concluded the 16th European Universities Rowing Championships with one silver and one bronze medal, as well as a number of strong finishes in the finals. Eszter Fehérvári finished second in the women’s single sculls, while Márk Barabás and Zsombor Balog won the bronze medal in the men’s lightweight pairs.
Széchenyi University Honorary Doctor Elected President of the WFUNA
Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, former Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations and UNESCO and President of the United Nations Association of Hungary and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO, has been elected President of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) at the organisation’s anniversary World Congress and 44th Plenary Assembly in Geneva. The distinguished diplomat has close ties with Széchenyi István University, which awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2025 in recognition of her outstanding career and achievements.
SZE researcher conducts artificial intelligence research in Japan
Dr Hajdu Csaba, a researcher at Széchenyi István University, spent almost two months in Japan. During his professional visit, supported by the Pannónia Scholarship Programme, he joined the research activities of a research group at Nagoya Institute of Technology, where he conducted research in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics, contributing to the development of a long-term Hungarian–Japanese collaboration.
Chinese Director Begins Work at Széchenyi University’s Confucius Institute
Dr Yu Fengping, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Széchenyi István University, has arrived in Győr. In addition to coordinating Chinese language teaching and cultural programmes, he will work to further strengthen relations between Jiaxing University and the Győr-based institution. This autumn, the Institute will offer Chinese language courses for all age groups, as well as a series of cultural lectures, a film club, calligraphy sessions and a major event celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Széchenyi István University students win medals at the University Canoe Sprint World Championships
Students of Széchenyi István University delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 FISU University Canoe Sprint World Championships, held in Szeged between 17 and 20 August. Three students represented the Hungarian national team and Széchenyi István University, achieving podium finishes in every event in which they competed.

Upon the recommendation of Prime Minister Magyar Péter, President of the Republic Baka András awarded the Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (Civil Division) to Dr Dóka Ottó, former Vice-Rector of Széchenyi István University and Professor of the Faculty of Informatics and Electrical Engineering, on the occasion of Hungary's National Day 2026, in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements, his distinguished work as an educator and academic leader, and his pivotal role in coordinating university research with regional development.
School of Mysteries: An Educational Board Game Emerges at Széchenyi István University
A thesis by a student studying to become a primary school teacher at Széchenyi István University has resulted in a board game designed to support the development of logical thinking and problem-solving skills through play. School of Mysteries, a cooperative escape-room-style card game, currently exists as a prototype and is undergoing testing, while its creators are exploring the possibility of introducing it to the market in the future.
ETO University BHC Reaches the European Club Beach Handball Elite
The men’s beach handball team of ETO University Handball Team, representing Széchenyi István University under the name ETO University BHC, finished second in the European Beach Handball Tour (EBT) rankings, securing an opportunity to qualify for next summer’s European finals in Italy. The historic achievement places the team among the continent’s leading beach handball clubs. Two members of the squad are currently students at Széchenyi István University.
SZE and Chamber Unite to Save the City-History Flow Stone Relief
Széchenyi István University has launched a community initiative to save the monumental stone relief entitled Flow, located in the former Rába Restaurant on the site of the former Rába Vehicle and Machine Factory. In cooperation with the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the University is calling on the people of Győr, businesses in the region, the University’s alumni, and everyone committed to preserving the city’s industrial and cultural heritage to make a donation. The aim is to restore the artwork and give it a worthy new home on the University’s central campus.

The quality of Széchenyi István University’s design programmes has once again been recognised through international success: Colorolli, an innovative design project for special education created by master’s student Anna Sára György, was selected as one of the seven best entries in the iF Design Student Award 2026.
Széchenyi István University Hosts One of the Carpathian Basin’s Leading Youth Summer Universities
The National Youth Council of Hungary and the Hungarian Youth Conference held the NITxMIK Summer University for the eleventh time, with this year’s event hosted by Széchenyi István University. One of the Carpathian Basin’s leading free youth festivals brought together several hundred young people aged 18–35 from Hungary and Hungarian communities abroad in Győr, where discussions focused on public affairs, political engagement and some of the most important issues affecting young people.
SZE Plans New Student Hall of Residence in Mosonmagyaróvár
Széchenyi István University is planning to build a new, modern student hall of residence on its Mosonmagyaróvár campus to provide affordable, high-quality accommodation for students of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár in the long term. The project's design and construction plans have already been completed, and it has received all the necessary planning approvals. The next step is securing the necessary funding for implementation.
SZE’s International Community Continues to Grow as New Students Come from More Than 70 Countries
The results of the recently concluded admissions process show that Széchenyi István University is becoming increasingly popular not only among Hungarian applicants but also among international students. Nearly 15,000 prospective students from abroad applied for the University's English-taught programmes, with almost 1,500 applicants from more than 70 countries securing admission.
SZE Lecturer Participates in One of NATO’s Leading Cyber Defence Conferences
Dr László Vikman, Lieutenant Colonel and lecturer at the Department of Law of Modern Technologies and Cybersecurity of the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University, participated in the International Conference on Cyber Conflict (CyCon), one of the NATO cyber defence community’s most prestigious international events, held in Tallinn, Estonia.
30 International Students Complete SZE’s and Audi Hungaria’s joint Audi Development Camp
Students participating in the joint Audi Development Camp organised by Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria explored topics including artificial intelligence and robotics before receiving their certificates of completion on 27 July. In addition to the academic programme, participants took part in a range of community-building activities, while the winning project team earned tickets to the Formula Student Symposium, to be hosted by the University this November.
MIRAI Scholarship: SZE Graduate Gains Experience in Japan
Students at Széchenyi István University can gain international academic and professional experience through a range of global mobility programmes. Márton Palatkás is one of those who have taken advantage of these opportunities, as well as scholarships offered by foreign countries. Through these programmes, he has travelled to India, South Korea and China, and most recently, Japan.
SZE Provides Modern Student Housing for 300+ Students on Cuha Street
From September, the Cuha Street building of Széchenyi István University in Győr will once again operate as a student residence. The institution is renovating the property using its own resources after it had functioned as a workers’ hostel under an external leaseholder in recent years, enabling it to serve students once again from September.
Nearly One Hundred International Students Graduate from SZE in the Recently Concluded Semester
More than 2,200 students completed their studies at the nine faculties of Széchenyi István University in the spring semester of the 2025/2026 academic year and joined the institution’s alumni community, which now numbers several tens of thousands of members. Graduates earned degrees in engineering, information technology, economics, law, health sciences, sport sciences, agriculture, teacher education, social sciences, humanities, music, and design. Among the graduates were nearly one hundred international students. The highest numbers of international graduates completed their studies in the International Economics and Business, Marketing, Vehicle Engineering, Computer Science, Supply Chain Management, Electrical Engineering, Business Informatics, Design, Computer Science Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, and Tourism Management master's programmes, as well as the International Relations bachelor's programme. These figures reflect the continued growth of the University’s international community, whose members now represent almost 90 countries worldwide.

Between 14 and 17 July, Széchenyi István University hosted the Tempus Public Foundation’s Youth Work Summer University, welcoming more than one hundred participants, including youth workers, educators, students and non-formal education trainers from across Hungary. The four-day programme focused on the values underpinning youth work, making its social impact more visible, and ensuring its long-term sustainability.

Thanks to its strategic partnership with Hungaroring Sport Plc., the University will be the only Hungarian university exhibiting independently at one of the world’s most prestigious motorsport events.
Argentine Cooperation Opportunities Discussed at SZE
Representatives of the Embassy of Argentina in Hungary visited Széchenyi István University to discuss opportunities for establishing educational, research and mobility partnerships. During the 15 July visit, topics included the launch of a double degree programme, the development of scientific collaborations, and the hosting of Argentine visiting professors and students.
Robotics and Programming: SZE and Audi Hungaria Launch Their Summer Short-Study Programme
Thirty talented young people from seventeen countries have arrived in Győr for the Audi Development Camp, the joint summer programme of Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria. During the programme, which runs from 20 to 27 July, participants work in international teams on a real robotics challenge provided by the company, while gaining insight into modern engineering development processes with the support of experienced mentors.
SZE Alumni’s Modular Children’s Furniture Receives Hungarian and International Design Protection
Hajnalka Gólya, a product design graduate of Széchenyi István University who completed her studies last year, has designed a modular piece of children's furniture that adapts to a child's changing needs from infancy through to school age. The concept, which combines four functions in a single product, has received both Hungarian and international design protection, with manufacturing and testing expected to be the next stages of development.
Crystal-Clear Electronics: SZE Successfully Pilots a New Project-Based Course
As part of its efforts to further develop project-based education, Széchenyi István University successfully piloted a new electronics curriculum with its vehicle engineering students. Based on the positive experiences, the University has begun preparations to introduce the programme as an elective course within its undergraduate programmes in the future.

Diplomas Awarded and Doctors of Law Conferred at Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of SZE
A total of 356 graduating students of the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at Széchenyi István University received their diplomas during two ceremonies held on 15 July at the Győr University Sports Hall. Outstanding students were recognised for their academic, scientific and community achievements, while the newly graduated law students were formally conferred the title of Doctor of Law during the afternoon ceremony.

A total of 111 graduates of the Audi Hungaria Faculty of Automotive Engineering at Széchenyi István University received their degrees during a graduation ceremony held at the Győr City University Hall on 14 July. The event brought together faculty leaders, academic staff, family members and friends to celebrate the graduates' achievements. Outstanding students who demonstrated exceptional professional, scientific or community engagement alongside their studies were also recognised.
Teachers from Seven Countries Attend Methodology Masterclass at SZE
A pedagogical methodology masterclass organised by the Apáczai Csere János Faculty of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences of Széchenyi István University has begun with the participation of teachers from seven countries around the world. The programme, taking place between 5 and 11 July, aims to provide up-to-date methodological knowledge for professionals who preserve and pass on the Hungarian language and culture through weekend Hungarian schools operating across the diaspora.

SZE’s Faculty of Faculty of Design and Performance Arts Celebrates New Graduates
The Faculty of Design and Performance Arts at Széchenyi István University held graduation ceremonies on 4 July in the building of the former synagogue. During the morning ceremony, graduates from the music performance, music teacher education and conducting programmes received their diplomas, while the afternoon ceremony was dedicated to graduates of the design programmes. On both occasions, outstanding student and staff achievements were also recognised with a range of awards.
Cybersecurity in Practice: SZE Hosts New National Competition
The CyberTrident Challenge cybersecurity incident response competition, held recently at the Győr campus of Széchenyi István University, focused on the technological, legal and organisational challenges of cybersecurity. Green Energy and Precision Agriculture in One Place: SZE Showcases Agricultural Innovation
The joint development project of Oasis Technology Ltd., Virtualitica Ltd., and Széchenyi István University has reached another important milestone. The project integrates electricity generation and agricultural cultivation within a single intelligent system. This innovative solution was presented during a professional event organized as part of the GreenTech Plus European Union project at the Smart Farm teaching farm of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.
