American Professors at SZE: Fulbright Scholars Visit Győr
The world-renowned Fulbright Scholarship, which this semester brought 32 US professors to Hungary, was recently hosted by Széchenyi István University in Győr, Hungary, together with the Hungarian-American Fulbright Commission. Thanks to the international academic mobility programme, two American professors are currently teaching and researching at the institution.
First ever Dr Scharle Péter Cultural Engineering Prize awarded in honour of the late SZE Professor
The 30th anniversary of the Hungarian Road and Railway Society was celebrated with a special professional programme, the MAÚT30 International Scientific Symposium. Experts from Széchenyi István University participated in the early October conference held in Budapest, where the University’s students were recognized in the organisation's talent programme. For the first time, the Cultural Engineering Award, established in memory of the institution's former lecturer, Dr Péter Scharle, was also presented during the event.
SZE Strengthens its Place in Times Higher Education World Ranking
After its debut last year, Széchenyi István University has again been included in the Times Higher Education World Ranking. This means that it remains in the top five percent of universities in the world.
Széchenyi István University Students Excel at WorldSkills 2024
Three students from Széchenyi István University participated in the WorldSkills Championships. Bianka Dely, in the Graphic Design Technology category, and Roland Izsó, who finished fourth in the Industry 4.0 category, won a medal of excellence, while Péter Losonczi was among the best in the Electrical Installations category.

The quadrennial European Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Conference was recently held in Lisbon. Several lecturers from Széchenyi István University participated as speakers, presenting their research on flood protection issues in the inter-island Danube section and the effects of rising tides due to climate change.
SZE Dragon Boat Team Secures Silver at National University Championships
The second round of the Hungarian University-College National Championship (MEFOB) dragon boat competition was held recently in Székesfehérvár. The team of Széchenyi István University performed very well once again, just like in the first round in Győr, and finished second overall in both the 200 and 2000 m races. Several competitors of the University of Győr are already preparing for the World Cup in China.
SZE Teacher Trains WorldSkills Championship Competitor in Automobile Technology
Péter Őri, a staff member of Széchenyi István University, prepared Bence Tánczos, a student of the Lukács Sándor Automotive and Mechanical Engineering Technical School in Győr, who won a medal of excellence in the Automobile Technology category at the WorldSkills World Championship of the world's best young professionals. A former Hungarian entrant in the competition, who is now a student of the Vehicle Engineering programme at the University, aided him as well.
SZE Professor Recieves Top Hungarian Statistics Award
In recognition of his outstanding professional work, Dr Tamás Dusek, head of the Doctoral School of Regional Sciences at Széchenyi István University, has recently received the Elek Fényes Award, the most prestigious award in the field of statistics. The professor at the Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics has been conducting research for nearly thirty years and continues to assist the Department of Statistics, Finance and Controlling as a lecturer.
Focus on road safety: Széchenyi István University hosts international conference
Széchenyi István University has successfully organized the Road Safety Conference for the second time in collaboration with its partners, an event which was launched a year ago with the aim of establishing a tradition. Experts in the field were invited to attend presentations by national and international speakers, round-table discussions, debates and the presentation of new scientific results.
Reporting week: new initiative brings greater flexibility to the academic and exam periods
Starting this academic year, the introduction of a reporting week at Széchenyi István University offers additional flexibility and planning options for both lecturers and students. This week will allow more time for making up missed classes, practical sessions and in-class tests, or, in the case of project-based subjects, for the reports as well.

In this spirit, the Uni Győr WMS go-kart team was established at the beginning of the year, and its driver, Vilmos Willisits Jr., has been on the podium in six races of the Italian Easykart Championship this year, finishing second overall.

The concert hall of Széchenyi István University, the unique space of the former synagogue, is home to the exhibition "Art and Faith", which pressents the works of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory to the public. The special exhibition will be open until mid-November.
Hundreds of SZE Students Aid in Flood Relief Efforts
The Széchenyi István University is supporting the protection against the extraordinary flood wave on the Danube and its tributaries in a number of ways. Volunteer students from the North Transdanubia Water Management Directorate are helping by filling and packing sandbags, and providing accommodation for water experts from further afield in their Halls of Residence.
UniMedical Center Reopens in Győr with Enhanced MR Scan Services
The Rába Medical Center, formerly located in the ETO Park Hotel in Győr, which provides diagnostic services and specialist surgeries, will reopen on the second floor of the adjacent ETO Park shopping centre on Monday 23 September as UniMedical Center. The opening hours (weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and the contact number (06-96-800-400) remain unchanged.

SZE Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Rubik's Cube with Ernő Rubik at Győr's Innovation Park
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the invention of the Rubik's Cube, world-famous inventor Ernő Rubik was the guest of Széchenyi István University and the Municipality of Győr on 12 September. The anniversary was celebrated with a Rubik's Cube competition and a panel discussion in the lobby of the Győr Innovation Park, in the building known as “The Cube”.
SZE Staff Member Becomes Dragon Boat World Champion, Invites Students to Join the Team
Péter Hegedűs, Head of Unit at the University Library and Archives of Széchenyi István University, won one gold and two silver medals at the 14th IDBF Dragon Boat Club Crew World Championship in Ravenna in September. Following his successful performance as a member of the medal winning team, he is now recruiting intensively as a coach to introduce the sport to new students and to encourage more of them to join the University team, which has achieved good results over the years.
Students Benefit from the Partnership between Mapei and SZE
Taking the already existing partnership to a new level, Széchenyi István University and Mapei Ltd., a manufacturer of chemical products for the construction industry, have signed a cooperation agreement. The aim of the cooperation is to strengthen the practice-oriented education of the Faculty of Architecture Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences in order to enhance the professional knowledge of students.

Former and Current SZE Students Celebrate Together at Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár
Around 400 students started their studies at the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty of Széchenyi István University in September. This year, the number of first-year students has grown by nearly 65 percent, building on last year's 43 percent increase. This surge occurred despite the fact that programme entry thresholds remained unchanged or, in many cases, they were even raised. Students were welcomed at the Faculty's opening ceremony, where prestigious awards were also presented.

This academic year, Széchenyi István University is launching three Double Degree Programmes with Portuguese, Indian and Italian universities, for which application is open to students until 15 September 2024. SZE Partners with Wizz Air to Launch Aviation Postgraduate Programme in September
Széchenyi István University of Győr is launching an Aviation postgraduate programme in partnership with Wizz Air airline to prepare students for flying large passenger aircrafts. EUSA Rowing 2024: SZE Takes Second, Hungary Tops Medal Table
The Hungarian competitors won five gold, two silver and four bronze medals at the 2024 European Universities Rowing Championships held in Zagreb between 29 and 31 August, putting Hungary at the top of the medal table, ahead of Germany and Croatia.

Building Community: Freshers' Week Brings SZE Students Together
The first-year students have arrived at Széchenyi István University to get in the mood for the start of the semester within the framework of the traditional "zero week": large-scale events are organised at the Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár campuses of the institution to help students settle in. Pan-European Picnic: SZE Students Honoured at Hungarian-German Youth Association Essay Competition
In addition to three German young people, two students from Széchenyi István University won prizes in the essay competition organised by the Hungarian-German Association for Youth on the 35th anniversary of the Pan-European Picnic. The prestige of the competition is reflected in the fact that the awards were presented by the President of the Association in the presence of the Presidents of the two countries.
World Championship Glory: SZE Students Kincső Takács and Gergő Rumi Triumph in Canoeing
Students of the Széchenyi István University have performed outstandingly in another world competition. Gergő Rumi returned home from the 2024 FISU World University Championships Canoe Sports with a gold and a silver medal, while Kincső Takács won a silver medal and a fifth place in the non-Olympic World Adult Championships.
Audi Development Camp Participants Design Electric Powertrain at SZE
The fourth edition of the Audi Development Camp, a short study programme organised by Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria, has come to an end. During the one-week programme, which provided micro-certificates, students from 20 countries worked on simulating the powertrain of an electric vehicle.

Audi Development Camp: Future Engineers from Twenty Countries Gather at SZE
For the fourth time, the Audi Development Camp, an intensive Short Study Programme, was organised jointly by Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria between 9 and 15 August. The international micro-certificate course, closely linked to vehicle development, attracted 35 talented students from 20 countries who had the opportunity to learn and develop for a week in Győr.
