Waberer’s Helps Establish Logistics Innovation Lab at SZE
The strategic partnership between Széchenyi István University and Waberer’s has reached another important milestone. With support from Waberer’s, which also carried out the refurbishment, a lecture room on the University’s Győr campus has been refurbished to serve as a new research and demonstration facility for the Waberer’s Transport and Logistics Competence Centre. Officially opened on 13 October, the Logistics Innovation Lab will support the shared professional objectives of the University and Waberer’s in addition to serving its regular teaching functions.
Senior Hindu monk shares insights into Indian culture at Széchenyi István University
Széchenyi István University recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda in India to establish a Department of Ayurveda. The University continues to strengthen its ties with India while awaiting the arrival of the head of department. Most recently, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Sri Avatar Puri Ji, a senior representative of a Hindu monastic order and an expert in classical Indian philosophy and Sanskrit, delivered a lecture attended by visitors from across Hungary.

Twelve researchers from Széchenyi István University are featured in the 2026 Stanford ranking of the world’s top 2% of scientists, which assesses scientific performance and the international impact of publications. The result also reflects the success of the University’s research support system, which offers a wide range of opportunities, from publishing and conference participation to professional mentoring.
Learning in the diaspora: Széchenyi István University lecturers deliver teacher training in Germany
Lecturers from Széchenyi István University held a micro-credential course for teachers at Hungarian weekend schools in Germany. The three-day programme, held in Kastl-Mennersberg, Bavaria, focused on experiential learning, story and drama pedagogy in education, forest pedagogy, and the development of musical and partial abilities. A total of 35 participants received a micro-credential.
Global Challenges: Five-Continent Experts Attend Széchenyi István University Conference
The Kautz Gyula Faculty of Business and Economics at Széchenyi István University hosted its international conference on business and economics for the third time. More than 300 experts from five continents travelled to Győr for the event, where artificial intelligence, sustainability, regional development, finance and geopolitical changes were among the topics explored in 27 thematic sessions and four professional workshops.
International Legal Conference Brings Researchers from Ten Countries to SZE
The relationship between law, politics and science, and its implications for the judicial application of law, were at the centre of a two-day international conference at Széchenyi István University. Sixty-eight participants from ten countries attended in person or online. The event, which grew out of several years of Polish-Hungarian cooperation, was held outside Poland for the first time.
Focus on Sustainable Transport: Symposium for Industry Experts to Be Held at SZE
The third Sustainable Mobility and Transportation Symposium (SMTS) will be held at Széchenyi István University on 8 October. World Championship Silver in Shanghai: SZE Lecturer Mentors Győr Automotive Student to Success
Martin Albrecht, a student at Lukács Sándor Automotive and Mechanical Engineering Technical School in Győr, won a silver medal in Automobile Technology at the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 World Championship. The young competitor was mentored by Péter Őri, lecturer at Széchenyi István University’s Audi Hungaria Faculty of Engineering
Indian–Hungarian Cooperation for Health Sciences
On the International Day of Ayurveda, 23 September, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Széchenyi István University and the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. The signing ceremony took place at the Embassy of India in Budapest. This strategic partnership aims to establish a new Academic Chair in Ayurveda, which will be integrated into the University's Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences in Győr to advance educational, research, and scientific development initiatives in the field.
European Day of Languages Celebrated in Győr with SZE’s Participation
Around 350 primary and secondary school students put their language skills to the test at an event held in Győr on 28 September as part of the European Day of Languages. Széchenyi István University participated in the event as an exhibitor at the headquarters of the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while on 30 September, the University Library hosted further programmes connected to the international observance.

Strengthening academic community: 8 international doctoral graduates take oath at SZE’s Academic Day
Academic Day is SZE’s most significant celebration, organized annually by the University to mark the anniversary of the birth of its namesake, Count István Széchenyi, widely referred to as "the Greatest Hungarian". SZE Improves Its Position by 210 Places in the THE World University Rankings
Széchenyi István University has achieved an outstanding result in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings published on 30 September. The University climbed 210 places in just one year, representing by far the greatest improvement among Hungarian institutions.

Transport Safety Conference at SZE: E-Scooter Accidents Rising, Regulation Urgent
Over the past two and a half years, 140 people have suffered fatal accidents while travelling by micromobility devices—mostly e-scooters—and injury cases have become a daily occurrence. These figures were highlighted at the fourth national Transport Safety Conference organized by SZE and several professional organizations.
Opening hours of SZE Campus Post Office to change from October
From 1 October 2026, Post Office No. 7, located on the Győr campus of SZE, will operate under revised opening hours, serving University staff and students, as well as local residents and workers.
Interior design contest: student ideas shape refurbishment of SZE’s Faculty of Law building
Students at SZE have launched a design competition for the interior refurbishment of the Deák Ferenc Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. Teams comprising students of architecture, architectural design and law, as well as those from related disciplines, have the opportunity to submit their proposals for the redesign of the main hall, teaching and community spaces by the end of November. The best projects will compete for a total prize fund of three million forints.
Győr university self-funds major lift replacements for academic building
SZE is to replace four lifts at its academic building in Győr with new ones. The work will be carried out in two phases to ensure at least some lifts remain operational at all times. According to the plans, work is scheduled to begin in January 2027, with all four new lifts expected to be fully operational by the start of the 2027/28 academic year.
Uni-Medicampus Kft., a company affiliated with SZE, operates the Pető Pont in Győr
In 2024, Pető Pont in Győr began operating at the MedTech Health Technology Campus of SZE becoming the first development centre of its kind outside Budapest. The centre, which specialises in conductive Education, is now continuing its activities under a new structure: Uni-Medicampus Kft., owned by SZE, is taking over management from the András Pető Faculty of Semmelweis University. The reorganisation was celebrated with the unveiling of a new plaque a few days ago.
4th Uni Győr Rally with SZE: Strong Line-up, Spectacular Programme
The 4th Uni Győr Rally will take place on 11–12 September in strategic partnership with Széchenyi István University. A total of 83 crews have registered for the two-day event, with fierce competition expected across several championship categories. Details of the event were announced on 8 September at a press conference held at Széchenyi István University’s Győr Innovation Park.
Széchenyi István University participates in the UNESCO international conference
Alongside diplomacy, education, science, culture and the arts also play a crucial role in building peace – this was the central theme of the international conference took place at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on 7 September. At the event, held in connection with the UN’s International Day of Peace on 21 September, Széchenyi István University was represented by Professor Eszter Lukács, the university’s Vice-President for International Affairs and Strategic Relations and a member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Association of Hungary. International students from the university also took part in the forum.
Getting to know one another: SZE launched community-building with Freshers’ Week
In the first few days of September, first-year students arrived at Széchenyi István University to prepare for the start of the semester during Freshers’ Week. In addition to casual fun and community-building, the goal of this traditional event is to share vital information with the help of the Students’ Union, lecturers and upper-year students.

The education counsellor and second secretary of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Hungary recently visited Széchenyi István University to discuss further opportunities for cooperation building on the existing partnership. Renovated SZE Cuha Residence Welcomes Over 300 Students
SZE’s refurbished Cuha utca Hall of Residence will provide state-of-the-art accommodation for more than 300 students from the start of the new academic year. The University modernised the building, which previously served as a workers’ hostel in Győr, using its own funds, and it was unveiled during a press tour on 1st September.
Trainings and joint research: Széchenyi University and Gallus Group launch partnership
The collaboration established by SZE’s Albert Kázmér Faculty in Mosonmagyaróvár, and the University’s spin-off company, Uni Inno Plc with Gallus Ltd and Taravis Ltd, both belonging to the Gallus Group, supports students’ professional development and industry experience, as well as the implementation of joint research, development and innovation projects.
Athletes from SZE brought home medals from the European Universities Rowing Championship
The SZE team concluded the 16th European Universities Rowing Championships with one silver and one bronze medal, as well as a number of strong finishes in the finals. Eszter Fehérvári finished second in the women’s single sculls, while Márk Barabás and Zsombor Balog won the bronze medal in the men’s lightweight pairs.
Széchenyi University Honorary Doctor Elected President of the WFUNA
Ambassador Katalin Bogyay, former Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations and UNESCO and President of the United Nations Association of Hungary and the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO, has been elected President of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) at the organisation’s anniversary World Congress and 44th Plenary Assembly in Geneva. The distinguished diplomat has close ties with Széchenyi István University, which awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2025 in recognition of her outstanding career and achievements.
SZE researcher conducts artificial intelligence research in Japan
Dr Hajdu Csaba, a researcher at Széchenyi István University, spent almost two months in Japan. During his professional visit, supported by the Pannónia Scholarship Programme, he joined the research activities of a research group at Nagoya Institute of Technology, where he conducted research in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics, contributing to the development of a long-term Hungarian–Japanese collaboration.
Chinese Director Begins Work at Széchenyi University’s Confucius Institute
Dr Yu Fengping, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Széchenyi István University, has arrived in Győr. In addition to coordinating Chinese language teaching and cultural programmes, he will work to further strengthen relations between Jiaxing University and the Győr-based institution. This autumn, the Institute will offer Chinese language courses for all age groups, as well as a series of cultural lectures, a film club, calligraphy sessions and a major event celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Széchenyi István University students win medals at the University Canoe Sprint World Championships
Students of Széchenyi István University delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 FISU University Canoe Sprint World Championships, held in Szeged between 17 and 20 August. Three students represented the Hungarian national team and Széchenyi István University, achieving podium finishes in every event in which they competed.

School of Mysteries: An Educational Board Game Emerges at Széchenyi István University
A thesis by a student studying to become a primary school teacher at Széchenyi István University has resulted in a board game designed to support the development of logical thinking and problem-solving skills through play. School of Mysteries, a cooperative escape-room-style card game, currently exists as a prototype and is undergoing testing, while its creators are exploring the possibility of introducing it to the market in the future.
ETO University BHC Reaches the European Club Beach Handball Elite
The men’s beach handball team of ETO University Handball Team, representing Széchenyi István University under the name ETO University BHC, finished second in the European Beach Handball Tour (EBT) rankings, securing an opportunity to qualify for next summer’s European finals in Italy. The historic achievement places the team among the continent’s leading beach handball clubs. Two members of the squad are currently students at Széchenyi István University.
SZE and Chamber Unite to Save the City-History Flow Stone Relief
Széchenyi István University has launched a community initiative to save the monumental stone relief entitled Flow, located in the former Rába Restaurant on the site of the former Rába Vehicle and Machine Factory. In cooperation with the Győr-Moson-Sopron County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the University is calling on the people of Győr, businesses in the region, the University’s alumni, and everyone committed to preserving the city’s industrial and cultural heritage to make a donation. The aim is to restore the artwork and give it a worthy new home on the University’s central campus.
Drawing and Painting Tool Collection Developed by Széchenyi István University Student Wins Award
The quality of Széchenyi István University’s design programmes has once again been recognised through international success: Colorolli, an innovative design project for special education created by master’s student Anna Sára György, was selected as one of the seven best entries in the iF Design Student Award 2026.
Széchenyi István University Hosts One of the Carpathian Basin’s Leading Youth Summer Universities
The National Youth Council of Hungary and the Hungarian Youth Conference held the NITxMIK Summer University for the eleventh time, with this year’s event hosted by Széchenyi István University. One of the Carpathian Basin’s leading free youth festivals brought together several hundred young people aged 18–35 from Hungary and Hungarian communities abroad in Győr, where discussions focused on public affairs, political engagement and some of the most important issues affecting young people.
SZE Plans New Student Hall of Residence in Mosonmagyaróvár
Széchenyi István University is planning to build a new, modern student hall of residence on its Mosonmagyaróvár campus to provide affordable, high-quality accommodation for students of the Albert Kázmér Faculty of Mosonmagyaróvár in the long term. The project's design and construction plans have already been completed, and it has received all the necessary planning approvals. The next step is securing the necessary funding for implementation.
