The first-year students have arrived at Széchenyi István University to get in the mood for the start of the semester within the framework of the traditional "zero week": large-scale events are organised at the Győr and Mosonmagyaróvár campuses of the institution to help students settle in. In addition to casual fun and community building, the events aim to pass on the most important information, with the help of the Student Union and the lecturers, as well as the upper years.
In addition to three German young people, two students from Széchenyi István University won prizes in the essay competition organised by the Hungarian-German Association for Youth on the 35th anniversary of the Pan-European Picnic. The prestige of the competition is reflected in the fact that the awards were presented by the President of the Association in the presence of the Presidents of the two countries.
Students of the Széchenyi István University have performed outstandingly in another world competition. Gergő Rumi returned home from the 2024 FISU World University Championships Canoe Sports with a gold and a silver medal, while Kincső Takács won a silver medal and a fifth place in the non-Olympic World Adult Championships.
The fourth edition of the Audi Development Camp, a short study programme organised by Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria, has come to an end. During the one-week programme, which provided micro-certificates, students from 20 countries worked on simulating the powertrain of an electric vehicle.

For the fourth time, the Audi Development Camp, an intensive Short Study Programme, was organised jointly by Széchenyi István University and Audi Hungaria between 9 and 15 August. The international micro-certificate course, closely linked to vehicle development, attracted 35 talented students from 20 countries who had the opportunity to learn and develop for a week in Győr.
Highly respected professionals with Formula 1 experience, still active in the world of international motorsport, will be transferring their knowledge to applicants for the Master's programme in Motorsport Engineering at Széchenyi István University. The English-taught programme, which will start in February 2025, is open to students from several continents who are interested in design engineering, primarily with a Bachelor's degree in engineering. Renowned partner teams will also help in gaining skills in the design and testing of racing vehicles.
Two students from Széchenyi István University competed at the Paris Olympics that ended on Sunday. Kincső Takács, a Bsc student in Tourism and Catering, finished 8th in the final of the women's canoe 200m single event. The canoeist from Győr missed out on immediate qualification in the preliminaries by a photo finish, but in the semi-finals she took fourth place, qualifying for the final.
Effective August 1, Széchenyi István University has assumed the management of the Győr Dance and Visual Arts Primary School, Vocational Secondary School and Dormitory. This transition presents numerous advantages, aligning the institution's training portfolio closely with the University's Faculty of Performance Arts' existing design programmes and the Dance and Rehearsal Director bachelors programme offered in cooperation with the Hungarian Dance University.
Celebrating its tenth year of existence, the Arrabona Racing Team, a student led and operated racing team of Széchenyi István University participating in the Formula Student series, won the FS East at ZalaZone in Zalaegerszeg on the first weekend of August, and a week earlier finished third on the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The SZEngine team, also made up of students from Széchenyi, contributed to the international success by developing the vehicle's engine.
The annual meeting of the Technical Committee on Loss of Stability of the European Steel Association was held at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Dr Gábor Hajdú, Assistant Professor at Széchenyi István University, participated as an invited speaker at the most prestigious event of the profession.

For the 15th time, the European DragonBoat Federation organised the EDBF European Nations Dragon Boat Championships 2024, which were held this year from 4-7 July in the Czech Republic, at the Ráčice racecourse near Prague. For the 56th Kékszalag Raiffeisen Grand Prix sailing race, for the first time this year all boats will be equipped with a tracking device, which, together with the corresponding online application, was developed by the Digital Development Centre of Széchenyi István University in cooperation with Hungarian Telekom and the Hungarian Sailing Federation. The innovation allows the continuous monitoring of the competitors' progress and provides background support to the organisers.
The Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) Graduate Student Council organized its international conference for the second time not long ago. Five students of the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Transport Sciences of Széchenyi István University presented their research at the online discussion, and one of them was also the main organiser of the event.

From Switzerland to Australia, 21 participants from ten countries are taking part in the short study programme offering micro credential for teachers of Hungarian language and culture in the diaspora, which is being held by Széchenyi István University. The programme, supported by the State Secretariat for National Policy, will provide students with good practices that they can use to improve the quality of Hungarian education abroad.
SZE Student Wins Bronze at World University Rowing Championships
Emese Szász, the Olympic champion of Rio, successfully defended her thesis at the Széchenyi István University's Hungarian-taught and postgraduate specialist training course in Sports Diplomacy. In her thesis, she examined three Olympic events from the perspective of sustainability. After the final examination, the former top epée fencer and sports director also revealed how she expects the Hungarian team to perform at the Paris Summer Games and the role of sport in the lives of her twins.
Széchenyi István University, in partnership with the foundation that maintains it, has established Hungary's second Jewish Excellence Exhibition in the former synagogue of Győr, now functioning as the University Concert Hall. The permanent exhibition, which opened on 6 July, features the life stories of over 400 Jewish scientists, artists and athletes, ranging from Albert Einstein to Mark Spitz and Miklós Radnóti.
Széchenyi István University’s first summer graduation ceremony was held at the Albert Kázmér Mosonmagyaróvár Faculty on 5 July. Dr Tamás Tóth, Dean, and Dr István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, welcomed the new graduates. At the event, the State Stud Farm at Szilvásvárad was awarded the title of model farm.
Dr Péter Vári, Associate Professor at Széchenyi István University and Deputy Director-General of the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH), has been awarded the Bay Zoltán Prize by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He continues to make it his priority to support the education of quality engineering students and the activities of student excellence.
Placing students at the centre, the University has embarked on a comprehensive overhaul of its programmes. The institution aims to enhance the quality of its practical education while developing young people's skills and increasing learning efficiency through new methodologies. By 2030, all the University’s programmes are expected to include project-based learning modules.
György Korsós is an associate professor at the Faculty of Health and Sports Sciences of Széchenyi István University and commentator for the European Football Championship. The former national football team player obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at this University and in addition to his lecturing duties, he is also a student on the English-taught programme at the Doctoral School of Regional Sciences and Business Administration & Management Sciences.
